Product Description The X-540 speakers use FDD2 (Frequency Directed Dual Driver) technology to produce a uniform soundfield anywhere in the room. Immerse yourself in the game using the selectable matrix mode, which automatically creates 5.1 surround sound from common 2-channel stereo sources. The compact satellites are wall-mountable, and a special clip lets you place the center channel speaker on top of most flat-panel monitors to reduce desktop clutter. Use the wired control center to control volume and bass levels or connect headphones to enjoy your games and music privately.

Buy These January 6, 2009 Emily Winkler I didn't expect these speakers to be that great, but once i put them in my 4 bedroom apt, it filled the whole place with music. Great speakers and I am loving the great sound quality they have, no static at all!
Affordable desktop surround for gaming and movies January 1, 2009 Mikael Arvola (IL, USA) I owned these for 29 days before I returned them. br / br /Overall for the price, they weren't too bad. The surround is good, the speakers can pack a decent punch for their size, and the sub is quite strong. The sense of 'being there' was good for games that supported surround. Watching movies was definitely quite enjoyable using these. br / br /As others have mentioned, the cables for the speakers are way too short. Fortunately they use standard RCA connections, so getting extension cables is easy (albeit an additional cost). Besides that, setting up is pretty easy, and I do like the center speaker's ability to sit on top of my monitor. br / br /However, where I feel these speakers really let me down is with music. I tried setting the speakers in various different places at different distances and angles. I tried using the 'matrix mode', my X-Fi card's own stereo expander and just regular 2.1, but the speakers never really sounded very good. The high-ends lack clarity, the mid-tones lack strength, and the sub seems a bit loose from the whole sound-world. br / br /In conclusion, if you're looking for just a gaming and/or movie surround set, and don't intend to use them for music much, they're certainly worth their cost. But if like me, you listen to music a lot on the same speakers as you play games, I'd put in the extra buck and get something more suited. And that is why I decided to return them.
Perfect speakers December 31, 2008 Josh C 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The speakers are perfect. Sound quality is amazing. Would be better if the speakers were wireless. The cords are long, so positioning them is easy.
Excellent speaker system. Worth the price. December 29, 2008 Gary in Sun City, AZ (Arizona) If you have a simple computer sound card you will need to press the matrix button to hear surround sound. That's what I have on my new Dell Optiplex 360. A higher level sound card will allow extra plug ins to the sound card. I am looking into it. But meanwhile, this is a TERRIFIC system. Well built, attractive, great sound 40-20,000 and plenty of bass from the floor woofer. This set up has a total of 11 actual speakers. I shopped this carefully for Christmas, and found the price range from $75-$115, with Amazon still having the others beat. Dell was the highest. You can see these on display at Best Buy, but they don't have the best price and you'll pay sales tax. I highly recommend this. Give it some consideration. Very happy with my purchase.
Best for the price December 26, 2008 Sunil Kamat Am happy with the speaker system I purchased. Good sound quality. Nice bass effects. Finally I can enjoy watching movies in the laptop. The 5.1 support for 2.1 is not that great. Though sound comes from all 5 speakers, it does not give out the actual 5.1 channel sound experience. But that is the problem with my laptop not supporting it and not of the speakers. Matrix options does help to convert 2.1 to 5.1 but not great. Overall, these are good speakers and I would recommend it to people.
