5 out of 5 stars Incredible blacks and color rendition!   November 19, 2007

I have been using a Benq 21" CRT for years (in a dual-screen environment) and thought it was pretty good. I calibrate my monitors with an Eye One.
The Eizo is the best I have ever seen or used. The blacks are really black and, in this respect, it is far better than my Benq P211.
Pricey, yes; but the resolution, pixel size and color is top-notch! I researced this for a while and though the price is high, it is well worth it if you are a PRO.

Here's my one gripe, and I think it is significant, and should be fixed by Eizo: You can't see the controls under (my) normal, low lighting conditions. It is not that dark in my work area; I can still read a book... You don't want to (have to) turn up the lighting to an un-natural condition when you want to calibrate or adjust the monitor. There is no backlighting for the buttons. The text is small (on a pretty flat black background) and with the illumination of the screen in your eyes, it is almost impossible to see the small, off-white (light gray) lettering, at all! I have used a flashlight to see what I'm doing. I think this Eizo is pretty, in a austere way. I like the simplicity and no-nonsense plainness of it, but it needs change to be where you can see the screen adjustments! I rate this as a significant shortcoming (when you need to calibrate) since I normally do some of my best work in the dark!
If you had backlighting actuated by touching anywhere on the control panel, and going off after a timed interval, that would solve all the issue.

5 out of 5 stars Pricy and worth it   November 10, 2007

I do fine art photography with a color managed work flow. This product blows away the 2 Apple Cinema displays I've used as a tool for doing careful color work.

The shadow detail is startlingly better. The illumination is absolutely even from edge to edge. The angle of view is very wide. There are no color shifts at the edges of the screen. There is a 5 year warrenty - much better than Apple's.

I've used one for two years now, and the color is very stable - unlike the Cinema displays which had visibly deteriorated at the edges of the screen within two years. Both Apple displays developed yellow and magenta color shifts at the edges that eventually rendered them unusable.
