4 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the price, but dead pixels likely   July 21, 2008

Low price, good color, but the occasional annoying dead pixel as I was warned about in other reviews. I returned the first monitor because it had 5 dead pixels. The new exchange monitor is the 24" screen, and still has one dead pixel, but it's no big deal-- I've already forgotten about it-- as it's often hidden by icons on my desktop. I called Soyo to discuss. They answered the phone quickly and the tech support person was helpful and hopefully correct when he said that dead pixels do not hamper overall performance and do not affect life span of the monitor. The controls are a bit wacky in that the manual says the brightness control is next to the contrast, but it is not. (You have to go to Miscellaneous category to find the brightness.) I'm using the monitor on an Intel iMac and it works well in both the Mac and PC environments. I'm keeping this one.

4 out of 5 stars A few stuck pixels but otherwise perfect.   June 15, 2008

I was skeptical of buying an off brand and was originally going to purchase an HP or Dell. But Office Depot had these on sale for $200 and given the option of a 22" over a 19" for the same price I was tempted to take the risk. br / br /I was not disappointed! br / br /Apart from three or four stuck pixels on the very edge of the screen where you barely notice them, this monitor exceeded all of my expectations. It's sharp, has high contrast, the color rendition is superior to many CRT's I've owned, and the refresh rate is VERY fast (no ghosting whatsoever). br / br /I have an older 20" Philips CRT setup on the same computer. Side by side there is no comparison, the Soyo is significantly better, but this could have to do with the fact that the CRT is somewhat faded. But even on display at the store it was quite obvious that the Soyo's color and contrast were as good, if not better, than most of the other monitors on display... another factor leading to my purchase. br / br /Don't let the low cost fool you. If you're willing to put up with a stuck pixel or two (which are usually no big deal) Soyo is a brand checking out.

4 out of 5 stars Good for the Price (many stuck pixels, though)   April 4, 2008

I needed a new flat panel monitor, and went to a local office supply store where these were on sale with an instant rebate for a price that made it worth it to try. br / br /I hooked it up via VGA (it also has the DVI capability, but does not come with a DVI cable). br / br /Five pixels were dead right out of the box. I sort of expected that when I purchased a lower-quality, large screen monitor. I was able to fix two of the pixels with a stuck-pixel remover program. However, after 30 minutes of use, a new pixel got stuck. I have contacted SOYO support to find out about replacing or fixing this monitor (When I get a response, I'll edit my review). The dead pixels are clustered together in the middle of the monitor. br / br /My only other complaint is the menu setup for configuring the monitor. The Brightness setting is in a completely different part of the menu, whereas the Contrast setting is option number two. From a usability standpoint, the Brightness setting should be option number two. The buttons for accessing the menus and power are inconveniently located behind a small lip at the bottom. While having the buttons hidden may make for a sleek appearance, it's functionally difficult to access when placed on an already crowded desktop surface. br / br /The picture quality is quite good. If they can take care of the stuck pixels, I'll probably buy another one in spite of the menu layout and button locations provided they can do something about the stuck pixels.
