Last of the quality CRTs January 20, 2008 James Honeycutt (Oregon) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
It is a crying shame that quality CRT based monitors are going the way of the dinosaurs. I restore old movie film (16mm, Super8 and 8mm). After I digitize the film and move it to a Mac or a PC to clean it up, I need colors that are right on the money. Maybe some day LCDs and other monitor formats will do the job that a CRT can do, but none are ready for prime time yet. If you are reading this I don't have to tell you that for starters, LCDs and other monitors can not even display a good white or a black. So they are just useless. I am not a gamer, but it is easy to see the motion artifacts when watching a DVD on a LCD. This is a non issue in a CRT. Why kill a product when something lame is taking its place?? I dono. The ViewSonic G90FB is a great 19" CRT. The "G" in the product ID stands for Graphic. Don't be tempted to buy the lower end consumer grade CRT from ViewSonic and save a few pennies. Get this one instead. I also own the 21" G225F ViewSonic. I have only had it for six months. When I went to buy another one, ViewSonic had dropped it's 21" line of CRTs. I almost cried. If you can afford it, buy two 90FB's 19" monitors. Keep one for a spare in the attic. I am sure this fine monitor will go away soon. NEC still makes a 21" CRT, but it is a low end monitor, but might be the last one standing in the 21" line. If you really need the 21". buy the NEC. But the quality of the ViewSonic is much, much better. If you do color work, movie film work, or if color is important to you, buy this unit. No LCD on the market can touch it. Shame on ViewSonic, Sony and NEC for not supporting us and dropping quality graphic CRTs before a replacement was on the market. JH, Portland Oregon
Not Bad, but ... October 24, 2007 David P. Rebeck 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This 19 inch ctr monitor is good for the price, but I'm not seeing that it lives up to high reviews. The shadow mask is uneven causing something like a sky effect with very thin cloud cover in spots. The upper left inch of screen is not as bright as the rest. And finally, the unit seems more prone to flicker than other 19 inch monitors I've had. Only at 100mhz do I get an unaffected image at my 800x600 preference. Otherwise colors are sharp, the unit is sturdy and, again, not bad for around $200.
Gamer on a budget March 11, 2007 David Daniels (Shevlin, Minnesota United States) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This Monitor is a great graphics monitor and the price is easy on the pocketbook. I've owned mine for around 4 years now and it has been a great addition to my homebuild and it didn't run me a fortune. For a great gaming experience on a budget its my pick.. 5 of 5. Try running at 1024 x 768 x 32 bit for a crisp easy to read resolution with super color response, if your just short of a seeing eye dog like myself a good match up with this monitor is a microsoft comfort optical mouse 3000. it has a magnifying viewer controled by a button right on the mouse to bring print out to a readable range, I'm using it right now. (homebuild spec. P4 intel prescott core socket 478, xfx Geforce 6800 extreme AGP,Intel I 865perl mother board, using onboard soundmax, 5.1 speaker system and Lite On cdrom/dvd burner/player. Running dual channel, 2 x 512 (1Gb)memory at 400mhz.)
