NOT AS BAD AS YOU THINK!! August 25, 2008 G. J. Filiatrault (Alberta, Canada) I bought mine in Canada and was able to yeild about 106 pages of full color printouts before my ink was low. And I use a compatible cartridge that retails for $4.99 for each color the yield amount on these cartridges is 24ml here in Canada that is why I got so many pages of full color. The bad part is that it is a noisy printer but if you put a piece of thin sponge under it the noise is muffled. you can scan when there is no ink.. that is only if you are doing a copy or scanning to print then you can't but scanning to the computer shouldn't matter of how much ink there is. I have used Epson printers since the early 80's and have had no problems in the past. For all those who are having trouble make sure you read the manuall or go online like I did and find a patch that will render the computer chip in the printer to trick it into thinking the cartridges are full I use it and use my cartridges till the paper is blank. Hope this helps... P.S. When using photo paper get a low or no glossy finish as this uses less ink and use inkjet paper instead of multi-use since inkjet paper uses a coating on it so it dosen't absorb so much ink that is why I yield so many pages of full color it is a few dollars more but worth it! Thanks
Good quality, inexpensive printer August 9, 2008 R. Caruso I had the Epson CX5400 for almost 6 years before it died. I'm a Realtor and I needed to print color brochures quickly. I like Epson and for the price it couldn't be beat. I don't care about the direct memory card slot because I prefer to print from my computer. It's more compact then the CX5400. Print quality is great and fast. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out the scanning process. But then it worked fine. I had to through out 4 of the CX5400 new printer cartridges because they did fit in the CX8400. All in all it's a good printer and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good quality, inexpensive printer.
Better out there July 25, 2008 Bo (Atlanta, GA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I received this printer for 10 dollars (through rebate) when I purchased a Sony digital camera. It is stylish but I am just like everyone else in the ink department. Guzzles it like crazy and you can't refill these. You can buy a multipack (which DOES NOT include black ink) for about 35 dollars. In addition, it takes a little longer than I would like for it to initialize when turned on. My old HP started right away. But it didn't have all of the bells and whistles. Also, the paper feeder is just plain wrong. Because it is fed from the top the paper will bend forward after a short while. Engineers at Epson who might be reading this, how hard is it to design a piece of plastic to prevent this? My old HP was fed from the bottom and concealed. And, this thing is noisy. I am giving this a third star only because the print quality is "okay" and I am happy with the software. Otherwise I can't wait for it to break so I can buy something I am happy with. Consumer reports rated the Canon Pixma MP610 as one of the best for 170 dollars AND it uses much less ink. You might want to check that out instead.
