Amazon.com Product Description Samsung's DVD-HD850 single-disc, progressive scan DVD player enhances video performance by increasing the video resolution of ordinary DVD titles and up-converting them to HDTV compliant formats (720p/768p/1080i), enabling you to enjoy an HDTV compliant picture-roughly twice the resolution of progressive scan DVD players. p It's compatible with a wide range of disc formats, including DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-R/RW, VCD, and SVCD, as well as MP3, WMA, and JPEG file formats. Compression rates supported for MP3 are from 128-192 kbps and for WMA from 64-192 kbps. JPEG files can be seen in a slide show with intervals of 6, 12, or 18 seconds between images; and you can zoom in (2x or 4x) on an image or rotate it 90-degrees clockwise. p The bookmark function lets you mark and store up to three scenes at a time for easy recall. Instant replay shows you the previous 10 seconds of the movie again--in case you missed something important. Instant skip jumps ahead 10 seconds--in case you want to miss something. And parental control lets you set a password that must be given before a password-protected disc can be viewed. p The 720p/768p/1080i DVD Players greatly enhance video performance by increasing the video resolution of ordinary DVD titles and up-converting them to HDTV compliant formats. A normal DVD player outputs 480i (interlaced) video. Progressive Scan DVD players can roughly double that resolution by outputting 480p video. the HD players enable you to enjoy an HDTV compliant picture-roughly twice the resolution of progressive scan DVD players. It is not High Definition DVD, so it is not a new format and works with existing discs. p It features the following video and audio connections (which includes HDMI for uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface between the TV and any HDMI-equipped audio/video component): ul liComposite AV Out (RCA): 1 liS-Video Out: 1 liComponent Video Out: 1 liHDMI Out: 1 liCoaxial Digital Audio Out: 1 liOptical Digital Audio Out: 1 /ul p bWhat's in the Box/bbr Samsung DVD-HD850, remote control, AAA battery, HDMI cable, AV cable, printed instructions

Very nice machine May 1, 2008 Christopher Lee Mattingly I wouldn't call myself an audio/video file but I do feel I know a little to keep my purchases of equipment knowlegable(I don't take many things back). I try and use the customer reviews as my key because I never buy anything out of the gate. It has been a good 3 yrs sinse the purchase of this particular player and i have to say it is a really nice machine. br / br /For those of you still in the CRT monitor world I have to say it rocks. I use an Onkio receiver 7.1 a Mitz Crt upconvert or not the picture is fantastic. It doesn't hurt that the unit itself looks very posh for a now under a 100 dollar machine. If your looking for a player that play's your movie piture crisp and clear grab one before there gone. I'm going to grab another to keep in storage i liked it so much and at the prices they are now why not. I can't comment on High def monitors except my roomate with an LCD thought "Finding nemo" looked much better on my CRT.
Good value! November 19, 2007 J. D. Bravo (Wingdale, NY - USA) I wasn't expecting much due to the low price, but was surprised. I tried it on HDMI and component. The unit has a remote control "hack" that will allow it to output in high definition over analog component, if you are using an older HDTV without digital inputs (like my first generation CRT). Picture quality is great on both my HDTV sets (professionally calibrated)and looks almost as good as a Blu-ray disc on my PS3.
NO HDMI CABLE INCLUDED*** January 19, 2007 sdang888 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
So I got a refurbished DVD player from "samsungmall" retailer. I opened the box and there is no HDMI cable despite the Amazon ad clearly stating: br / br /What's in the Box br /Samsung DVD-HD850, remote control, AAA battery, HDMI cable, AV cable, printed instructions br / br /I've already sent a feedback to the retailer. Don't know if I will get this cable but just beware if you are planning on purchasing the refurbished option of this player. br / br /Overall, the dvd player works pretty well so far but of course without the cable I can't tell the difference between HD and component. br /
