5 out of 5 stars Pint-sized Versatility   November 14, 2008
J. Moffet
This radio comes packed with features and versatility. It can be played in a car, through a home stereo, or using headphones (I'd recommend investing in a better pair of headphones than the earbuds that come with it). Although the operation of this device isn't intuitive, it is easily learned, and if you're willing to read the manual, you'll find that there is much more to the Nexus 50 XM radio than simply listening. br / br /The major selling point for this radio is that you can record up to 50 hours of content from XM's channels. You can also store your own personal music collection, because this radio allows you the capability to connect with a computer and transfer your MP3 files to the Nexus. All of this content is portable; it will play in your car, your home, or anywhere you're willing to listen with headphones. The only minor drawback is that "live" XM channels are not portable. In order to listen to real-time content, you must have the radio docked. br / br /Recording is easy, and you have the option of recording one song, or continuous recording which stops only when you press the button. I have begun recording a song as late as 45 seconds into the track, and picked up the entire track. Recording is precise; you never miss the beginning or end of a track, and the sound quality is exceptional. br / br /Other notable features of this radio include XM-Napster service, in which you can immediately buy a track you hear on XM from Napster, the ability to edit and reorganize your recorded content, and the ability to "lock" content so that you can't accidentally erase it. br / br /The expense of this radio is offset by its capability to continuously evolve. The kit comes with a USB cable which allows you to connect to your computer and update the firmware (the internal programming that operates the radio). Thus, any minor glitches can potentially be fixed, and functionality can improve, as opposed to the necessity of buying a new radio to get advances in technology. The Samsung Nexus 50 XM radio is well worth the expense, due to its portability and versatility.

4 out of 5 stars Good product, but there are some drawbacks   November 13, 2008

Having been an XM subscriber for almost three years now I enjoy buying XM units to see and hear the differences between the units that the company markets. I had read decent things about Samsung Nexus 50 hour, and I got a good deal on ebay so I decided to get one. br / br /Pros - br /The unit is very, very small and so lightweight. br /The monochrome screen is easy to read. br /The controls are easy to understand and use without reading the book br /It records individual songs and allows you to organize them . br /And includes equalizer controls so that you can adjust them to whatever you are listening too. br /Battery life was better than advertised at over five hours. br /Xm Passport br /Cons - br /XM offers a feature called Tune Select on most units, but not on this one. Its very handy, and if you don't know what it is you should look it up. br /It doesn't offer the streaming scores or stock quotes that many of the units provide. br / br /Of course this unit doesn't provide Live XM playback when it is not in its home or car docking units but then again that is why it is so inexpensive in the first place. If you want live, portable XM radio you should purcahse the Inno, at at least double the cost. Overall though this unit is very easy to use and a very good value for some body wanting a portable XM, but not willing to shell out the major bucks for the Inno.

5 out of 5 stars Great XM Radio   September 30, 2007

This XM radio is terrific - small compact, but with lots of memory for recording my favorite music - and all at a great price. Outstanding value!

4 out of 5 stars great product- very versatile   September 26, 2007

I recently decided to get XM radio rather than invest in an ipod, so I purchased the Nexus xm player. I love that I can record songs from the live xm radio while I'm listening to them, and switch between live xm and mp3 mode. If I am not in my car or at home where I have the xm receiver, I can take the mp3 player with me and listen to songs I recorded from the radio or songs I downloaded on my computer. The player is easy to work using the remote control that comes with it, and you can save your favorite xm channels for faster access to them. br / br /The only drawback is having to remember to bring the passport if I switch between my home dock and my car- basically I have to keep the player and the passport together all the time so I don't forget the passport if I'm in my car. Also, the screen is kind of hard to see if the player is not right next to you. br / br /Other than that I think the nexus is really versatile and great for someone who wants an xm radio and a basic mp3 player. It's also a really great deal because its so much cheaper than other xm receivers br /and has more features. br /

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely love it!   September 18, 2007

As long as you understand that this device is NOT Live XM, then you'll love it. I'm using for my long commute, and some of the areas do not get good XM coverage. So having 'recorded' content is actually a plus. I just record new sessions overnight, and grab it to go the next morning. Another plus, it the tiny size (much smaller than the ones that have the transmitter on board). It is so small, that I don't even realize it is in my pocket. br / br /A few other reviewers mentioned a 'break' or 'gap' between songs. I have NOT heard this at all. Listening to recorded content is identical to live content on my device. br / br /And the recording sessions are nicely organized so you can listen by Channel, by recording session, by playlist, by artist, or by individual track. br / br /It was super easy to install and activate too. br / br /I would buy this again in a heartbeat!!
