An excellent choice for photo editing May 2, 2008 E. A. Murrer (Tallahassee, FL) I purchased this monitor on ebay for $370 including shipping, and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm using it with my powerbook for photo editing, and I love how much extra space I have. The monitor is huge compared to what I'm used to, and the colors and brightness of the monitor are excellent. I love the swivel as well as the vertical tilt. I LOVE this monitor!
Excellent monitor - unless you own a Dell! January 25, 2008 R. Richardson (Homewood, IL United States) I purchased the Samsung 215TW 21" LCD monitor after a lot of research to determine what would be the best display for photo editing. This one was recommended in several reviews and was in my price range, so I ordered it. Little did I know that it isn't compatible with my Dell computer. The Samsung monitor has a DVI-D video connection, while Dell offers VGA connection. I still don't know what the difference between these connections is, but I do know now that I can't use the digital aspects of my new monitor. To use it, I would have to purchase a VGA to DVI-D converter, which costs $300-$400. Fortunately, the monitor works well with analogue connection, so I've been using that. The colors are great, even without digital connection, so I can't complain. I wish someone had told me about VGA and DVI-D before, though!
Fantastic mid-range LCD January 12, 2008 mac734 (New York, NY USA) As a young graphics professional with a start-up photography business, I learned at an early stage the LCD that shipped with my computer wasn't very good at recreating accurate color for my photography. Even with monitor calibration, I noticed subtle differences in color temp when looking at prints, as well as differences in saturation and brightness. br / br /Days of research (and a limited budget) led me to settle on this LCD. Though discontinued, it's a fantastic product at a good price. Most lower priced LCDs use TN technology for their panels, which is fine for common uses and gaming, since they generally have very high response times. But for accurate color rendition, most professional graphics LCDs (Eizo, etc.) use the more expensive IPS panel type. br / br /Somewhere in the mid range lies MVA, PVA, and S-PVA panel types. The Samsung 215TW uses S-PVA, which offers excellent contrast, wide viewing angles, an improvement over PVA on pixel response times, and a noticeable improvement over TN on color reproduction. br / br /The bottom line? If you're concerned about accurate color but cannot afford spending a few thousand dollars on an IPS model, go for MVA or PVA. The 215TW is an excellent LCD for photography, computer graphics, gaming with realistic graphics, movies, etc., but does not come with a very high price tag. br / br /Google "LCD Panel Types" for more in-depth reading. Most retail stores don't include the panel type when discussing the specs of a particular model, so you may have to do some research on that before buying. [...].
Una de las mejores compras tecnologicas que realize en mi vida. January 9, 2008 Roberto Cristaldo (Asuncion, Paraguay) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
PROS: br /1. NO TIENE GHOSTING. br /4. Multiples entradas (DVI, VGA, S-Video, Composite, etc.). Capacidad de PIP. br /5. Resolucion WSXGA+ (1680x1050). br /6. Widescreen. br / br /CONS: br /1.
Can Calibrate for Photo Proofing June 26, 2007 R. M. Prokopy (Grand Rapids, MI) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Got this monitor because I am a photographer and color correct/process all my files. It was important that this monitor could be calibrated down to 100-110cd/m2 to be able to show shadow detail. I can certainly do this as I have had it as low as 101.2cd/m2. It can be easily calibrated with my EyeOne Display, Match software and the buttons located on the front panel. I am happy with the images displayed. If you want a good monitor for photo editing for under $500, this is the one.
