Amazon.com Product Description
Pioneer's versatile VSX-1015TX 7.1-channel AV receiver delivers a pulse-pounding 120 watts per channel to produce exciting, enveloping sound for your favorite movies and music. The THX Select2-certified receiver also offers an onboard processor for Windows Media Audio 9 Professional (WMA9 Pro), so if you hook up PC or a WMA-compatible optical media player (via an optical or coaxial digital-audio connection) you'll be able to enjoy surround-formatted Web content, too--gaming will never be the same.

The VSX-1015TX's amplifier uses high-quality, low-distortion discrete MOSFET technology unique to Pioneer. This generates equal amplifier power for all 7 amplified channels (front left, center, right, mid-rear left/right, and rear left/right), eliminating the possibility of any one channel dominating a particular sound field.

Dolby Digital and DTS decoding brings theater sound right into your home with up to 6 discrete channels of surround sound, including a special ".1" LFE (low-frequency effects) channel for deep, realistic sound effects. The built-in Dolby Pro Logic IIx and DTS Neo:6 decoders not only provide full surround sound decoding for Dolby Surround sources, but will also generate convincing surround sound for any stereo source. Also, with the addition of a surround back speaker, you can take advantage of the built-in Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES decoders for 6.1-channel surround sound. The receiver also offers 8 proprietary Pioneer Advanced Surround modes.

Setting up for home theater sound is as easy as connecting your speakers, a DVD player or other source, and your TV. Automatic MCACC (Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration System) with 5-band equalization offers studio-quality set-up and calibration of your system, and it works in any room. Auto MCACC Setup measures the acoustic characteristics of your listening area, taking into account ambient noise, speaker size and distance, and tests for both channel delay and channel level. After you've set up the microphone provided with your system, the receiver uses the information from a series of test tones to optimize the speaker settings and EQ for your particular room. For complete surround sound control you still have access to the full range of surround sound settings.

Connections consist of 5 digital-audio inputs (3 optical, 2 coaxial) and 1 output (optical), 5 each composite- and S-video inputs (with 5 accompanying left/right stereo analog audio jacks), and 3 high-bandwidth (5 Hz to 100 MHz) component-video inputs. The unit offers convenient, high-quality binding-post terminals for all speaker connections (7 plus left/right outputs for a stereo speaker-B output). And you'll also appreciate the receiver's 7.1-channel RCA preamp outputs whenever you're ready to move to higher-power amplification.

What's more, the receiver converts S-video and composite-video to component-video signals, so you only need one video connection to your TV/monitor, irrespective of your viewing source.

The supplied LCD learning remote control gives you not only complete control over every function of this receiver, but also over the main functions for other components in your home theater system. Using a system of preset codes, you can program the remote to operate a wide range of other equipment.

If you often listen to a particular radio station, it's convenient to have the receiver store the frequency for easy recall whenever you want to listen to that station. This receiver can memorize up to 30 stations.

The VSX-1015TX bears the THX Select2 logo, which means it has passed a rigorous series of quality and performance tests covering every aspect of the product. This includes testing of preamplifier and power amplifier performance and operation and hundreds of other parameters in both the digital and analog domains, helping to ensure that your home theater experience as faithful as possible to what the studios intended.

5 out of 5 stars Great receiver   February 9, 2007
Brian P. Burke (Nashville)
I purchased this receiver as part of a home theater system mainly because of its 7.1 capabilities and auto calibration of the surround speakers. It's a breeze to set up and delivers house shaking base and crystal clear sound. I purchased acoustically matched Infinity speakers for the system. The many options offered by the selectible surround modes make it very easy to taylor the sound to fit the music source, whether it's a move, music DVD or CD. For the price, this receiver is hard to beat.

4 out of 5 stars Would have received 5 stars if not for the lip sync issue   July 17, 2006
Mike
This receiver is as good as it says in all other reviews. The first thing I would recommend is to use a digital audio connection between your components and your receiver. Although with the analog connections from digital cable and Xbox 360 were sufficient, the digital connections made a world of a difference. The one knock on this receiver was the fact that for this price range there is no lip sync delay. This is an option that should be on this receiver but it is not. If looking for a great 7.1 receiver, I would recommend this highly. To combat the delay, you can just wire the video cables directly to the tv instead of routing them through the receiver (although might be hard to do if you have too many inputs for the available ones on your tv).

5 out of 5 stars So far so good   June 26, 2006

I did a lot fo resarch like many others. I originally decided to purchase a Sony 1000ES because Sony has a good, long warranty, but heard of some of its limited inputs, then I found many good reviews on the pioneer. At the end, I decided on this pioneer and so far, I am not disappointed. It's setup in simple, the auto MDACC for seting up surround speakers is easy, and learning its features and settings has not been hard to figure out. The sound is great and better than my previous old Denon.

For the money, features, and sound quality, this one is hard to beat.
