A great monitor for office work! November 17, 2008 Peter (Ontario, Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
(This review is for the Samsung SyncMaster 943T Monitor.) br / br /I have had two of these monitors since April 2008. Just before that, I've also tried the Samsung 943B (for about a week) which had a funny sparkly shine on the screen and very poor viewing angles (so I returned it to the store). The frame all around the 943T screen is quite thin, so the emphasis is on the LCD screen. I use one 943T in landscape (for Outlook, Excel, etc.) and the other in portrait mode (for Word, Internet, etc.). When in vertical (portrait) mode, you can even divide the screen into two, and you'll end up with two near 14-inch diagonal wide-screen displays one on top of the other (really good for Internet browsing). br / br /This monitor has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which, for doing text work and web browsing, I prefer over the 16:9 (or 16:10) format. br / br /As far as the main specs, this monitor has 250 cd/m2 Brightness (very easy on the eyes) and a 1,500:1 Contrast Ratio. The Horizontal and Vertical Viewing Angles are superior at 178 degrees each (and you can tell too). (The viewing angles on the 943B are 170 degrees horizontal and 160 degrees vertical, but if you moved your head even a little bit to the right or left, the display lost its crispness and focus very quickly. And for vertical viewing, in portrait mode, you didn't even have to move your head - just your eyes - and there was a noticeable difference in the top half and the bottom half of the screen.) br / br /If you are looking for a monitor to do Word, Excel, Publishing and/or Internet browsing, then this is an absolutely perfect, easy on the eyes, high contrast monitor. You won't be disappointed. br / br /But if you mostly watch DVD movies and play games, you should check out other monitors that are brighter, faster and have a wide screen (for example, the 22-inch Lenovo L220X would be an excellent choice for those purposes - a very high quality and solid monitor for the money, especially for day-time movie viewing). br / br /Why did I give it a 4-star rating if I like it so much? For the adjustment buttons on the frame (located near the bottom right corner). They are absolutely horrible! They are not even buttons - but points (or small areas), flush with the bezel. They only require a light (and silent) touch from the warmth of your finger, IF YOU CAN FIND THEM. And it is very easy to set the buttons off accidentally (if you bump into them with your hand - even if very lightly - and your settings can unintentionally change!). Luckily, you won't have to adjust the display characteristics often. (Just set it and forget it - and stay away from them!) I think Samsung chose this method to make the monitor look clean and pretty, so that there are no protruding (and visible) buttons on the bezel. I also have an older SyncMaster 191T-Plus with the "visible" bar-buttons and they are just fine. There is nothing wrong with them and they look very professional, and they require a deliberate click-touch to adjust. br /
Samsung 943T - hope it lasts August 28, 2008 B. Riggs (Southern California) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had the Samsung 943T 19" LCD monitor about a month. The display is excellent, with sharp text and good colors. I got it because my Samsung 173P lost power about a year-and-a-half out of the warranty period. The original 173P had to be replaced about a year into the warranty period, but I decided to gamble anyway, and stay with Samsung, hoping for a longer life with the 943T. br / br /The 173P was a pivoting 17" LCD with a fine display. It was more solidly constructed than the 943T, but the 943T cost less than half what I paid for the 173P. br / br /I have generally used these monitors in the 90-degree pivot mode--mainly for word processing and the internet. In the 90-degree mode, I prefer these to the pivoting wide-screen models, which are more unwieldy and, for my purposes, do not provide any more utility.
