Product Description At 10.2 ounces, Kindle is lighter than a typical paperback and as thin as most magazines. Barely a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle fits perfectly in your hands. Kindle is as easy to hold and use as a book. We designed it with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle's page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages comfortably with one hand from any position. The page-turn buttons now flex inward to prevent any accidental page turns when picking up or handling Kindle. Kindle has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Kindle is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. With Kindle's 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot.

Great for books that are just text but it won't replace my library. November 22, 2009 lpac (US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Let me start by saying I do enjoy my Kindle 2. Kindle 2 is great for reading books with lots of text such as the "Lords of Finance" or the "The World is Flat". But if you have books with tables and graphics the Kindle 2 is not such a great reading experience. I read a lot of math, technology, and finance books and it's my opinion that Kindle ink technology today does not do a good job with graphics, formulas, and tables.

br /Also I struggle with the green factor. Through Amazon you can get great deals on hardcover used books. Unless traveling I prefer the experience of a hardcover book.
Kindle- gift November 22, 2009 Kayaknutt (LA MIRADA, CALIF) The kindle is a X-Mas Gift for my wife, so I have not opened it. It did arrive very promptly, it did come by US Postal Service so the box was in my mail box where my wife almost stumbled upon her suprise x-mas gift..... The service was great, but sorry I have no details on the operation of the kindle until after dec 25th.
finally could afford my kindle........ November 22, 2009 M. A. Christenson (Willow , AK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have wanted a kindle forever. We live in a rural area and cannot just "pop" into the library or box store to buy a book. Since I can read a good book in a couple of days, the kindle was like manna from heaven. When the price went down, I decided to bite the bullet and buy one. I then of course bought a couple of books. It's been great to be able to take it along on the long trips to town. It fits in my purse better than any paperback. But there are some drawbacks. One, the cost seems so high for a small electronic device. Plus then you have to buy the cover and screen protectors and all the goodies one needs to keep this device in tip top shape. Second, the instructions are lacking. Three, I see ghost images on my screen long after I turn it off. It also takes at least 8 seconds for mine to turn off when I hold the button. Would I still buy it? Yes.

I am very happy with the kindle. I wish a few of the newer books were available.
br /In summary, I am glad that I bought it.
Sorry I waited so long November 22, 2009 J. Placon (Marion, SC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love my Kindle - just sorry I waited so long to get one. I'm rarely without a book in my hand. The kindle is so compact and convenient. With the number of books I buy I could start my own library. This will pay for itself and save space in my home. I was able to purchase a refurbished model for a lower price and have no regrets. I take it everywhere. Every once in a while I pick up a hard cover book I bought that I haven't read yet and my family laughs and says "oh you're reading a real book!"
