Brilliant but.... November 23, 2009 Cooper Peter Robert (Hong Kong) I've just bought this for my Wife. She loves it and couldn't be happier. I think the screen could be a smidge bigger, the text when its small enough to get a decent amount of words per page is a tad small i think but its marginal. The other thing when she's reading in bed is the click from the page forward button. sounds like she's typing morse code and when you're tying to get to sleep it's VERY VERY ANNOYING. If anyone knows how to turn it off let me know as i can't find anything in the user guide. i dont think its a digital click, just sounds like the depression of the button spring
I love my new Kindle November 23, 2009 Marian L. Kirk (Elkton MD) I was a little worried at first since I always loved turning the pages of a book. I love my Kindle and I take it everywhere with me. It is my new friend. I have bookcases full of books and now I can save trees. The ease of downloading is great. When I first went to Amazon to research the Kindle I was very excited on the way they precented it. My employer has a Sony book reader but the Kindle has more to offer, and I will never go back to paperbacks and new releases when I can download them so quickly and at a reduced price from bookstores and retail stores.

I was given a gift certificate to Amazon.com and decided, after a lot of consideration, to put it toward a Kindle. Apparently I should have done a little more consideration. At first I couldn't get any bars reception. I drove all over the island to hilltop after hilltop where the cell phone reception is fine, but found no reception. Next I took it to three different towns on the mainland, stopping at different spots in each town. Still no reception. That was when I wrote support telling them my Kindle did not work.
br /
br /However, I have found that, if I plug it in, I can get one bar on my kitchen counter. One bar, while not enough to go to the Kindle Store, is enough to download a book. I go on line to buy the book and leave the Kindle on. The bar, which comes and goes, allows the book to eventually be downloaded. (If it says it is "archived," it is not on the Kindle, although I don't know where it is.) I have bought several things from the computer and, within hours, they are on my Kindle.
br /
br /Apparently the antenna effect of the plug in wire gives the Kindle just enough "oomph" to download. So my first suggestion is some sort of antenna booster. (Turns out I should have known I couldn't get service in Maine. Not sure why I can't. I don't know how the transmission works, and the instructions don't say.)
br /
br /The Kindle is small, light, and flat. Instead of packing a dozen books for a two week vacation, I can put a dozen works on the Kindle, and I will. So I will keep it, but it is a disappointment.
br /
br /Another big disadvantage is that it virtually requires a $30 cover. So the price is not the price.
br /
br /It is easy to read. One can adjust the type size and zoom on pictures. It will even read aloud, and the computer generated voice works better than, say, the NOAA radio voice. It will, I understand, in a place that actually receives, go to the Internet or receive mail. I suspect it will work better for a city dweller.
In Love!!!! November 23, 2009 Sandra Sentell (Cumming, Ga.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I absolutely love my Kindle. I have had it two weeks and I have found nothing wrong with it. I carry it in my purse and ever time I have to wait anywhere, I pull it out and start to read. People have seen me reading and have asked to look at it. Proudly, I show it to them and tell them they really need to get one. With what I use to spend on hardbacks, I'll have this paid for in no time!
Amazing! November 22, 2009 Lynda Brostrom (Cookeville,TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful

br /Can't think of anything negative to say. It's wonderful and I love it!
