Great sound and features October 18, 2009 J. Holmes (Austin, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I replaced an older Yamaha (non HDMI/HD) receiver with this one. The Onkyo was easy to set up although it took a while to figure out how to set all the options I needed. Sounds great. My biggest complaint is with the manual and Onkyo support. Since I am new to HDMI devices I had alot of trouble in making all my components work since my old DVD player and new Onkyo iPod dock are not HDMI. Two emails from Onkyo support were even more vague than the manual so I had to spend a while in trial and error until I got it all working. Not fun when your TV and equipment fit tightly in a cabinet and you have to take everything out to plug, replug while trying to keep all the cables as neat as possible.

br /I was going to buy the SR607 since it was highly recommended from the electronIc store clerks. One of them even hugged the receiver while telling me how much he loved it!!. However, I didn't need 7:1 surround sound so settled on this one and it sounds great. Can't wait to get a Blu Ray player next.
good deal October 14, 2009 erlingson After having let go of my old Sony TV, and beeing treated to a very nice picture from my new (from Amazone) Samsung 55, I also heard that my old Pioneer surround system was not up to date, I ended up choosing the Onkyo 507. IT IS FAR BETTER that I expected. (I kept the old speakers.) The only thing so far is that I am having problems with setting up my old JVC -DVD player. I am getting sound, but no signal at this point. I will seak help. Maybe someone "out there" knows what to do..??

AV Receiver October 11, 2009 John C. Lucchese (Michigan, USA) Sounds great, easy to set up, especially with HDMI cables and has a truly universal remote: I was able to program HDTV, DirectTV and Blu-ray remotes to work with the crustiest details of each.
Great Product October 7, 2009 Douglas Howie (Pennsauken, NJ) This was my first receiver, and I was not disappointed. The manual was actually helpful and informative. Set-up was a breeze when I used the automatic calibration mic. Performs well and meets all my requirements.

br /One thing that I didn't realize though. When I saw how many inputs this thing has, I thought "Wow, I could hook up all my older game systems to the composite and component ports, and then my PS3 and 360 to the HDMI! No more switch boxes!" That's not quite how it works. You see, there is an HDMI port marked DVD/BD, and there is also a component port marked BD/DVD. You have to specify (deep inside of the menu tree) which port to use when you press the DVD/BD button. So in reality, you're limited to about four video devices.

br /I don't know why I can't manage the inputs like my TV does, where I press "Input" then select exactly which connection I want. My dad has a Yamaha that works the same way, so I guess this isn't specific to Onkyo. The good news is that there is no perceptible audio delay when I connect the audio out on my TV (Sharp Aquos LCD) to the receiver via toslink. This enables me to connect older devices to the TV inputs instead, which is actually more convenient for me.
Great audio and video results September 22, 2009 James E. Boardman (SW Michigan, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a GREAT receiver for the price. The audio output is amazing, and the video pass-through is perfect. I have a five channel audio setup, and the receiver does a marvelous job in sound reproduction.

br /TIP: Don't bypass the instructions for initial setup! Onkyo supplies a microphone and a setup program to make initial sound settings based on your individual speaker locations and size. At first I thought this odd looking microphone was some sort of AM antenna and immediately set it aside. After unsuccessfully tweaking for a week, I read the instructions and used the mike (that luckily I had put away in a drawer and not destroyed), and was pleasantly surprised to find the receiver did a great job of making the appropriated settings. Just minor tweaking after that.
br /
br /The only disappointment I have with the receiver is that there is no cross compatibility with video. If you have a device that outputs only component video and another that outputs HDMI, this receiver won't output the component video through the HDMI port. So make sure you have enough inputs on your TV or other display device to handle both. Overall, I am satisfied with the sound and video output of this receiver.
