5 out of 5 stars Great value and bang for your buck!   November 4, 2009

My Denon AVR 1086 was about 6 years old, at a cost of about $650. The Denon was giving me some issues and the lack of HDMI connectivity made it necessary to upgrade my AVR, especially since I wanted to jump into the Blu-Ray mode. I got this receiver a couple weeks ago and it was remarkably easy to setup; I recall my Denon was not so easy. I consider this to be an extraordinary value based on the cost of this unit, through Amazon, to be in the low $400 range. I have a nice set of Boston home theater speakers, including a Boston powered sub-woofer, and this Onkyo delivers nice and clean sound quality to my speakers. br / br /I am a proud middle aged bachelor so I have miles of heavy speaker wire running and draped everywhere. This is probably a direct protest to nagging and neat freak chicks. My heart goes out to you guys that have to ask your GFs/Brides if it's Ok for you to have a surround system and then they -ONLY- grant permission -IF- it's clean, tidy and virtually unnoticeable. I had to toss this part in since it can be such a PITA to get a surround system put system together in the first place; I can't imagine making all the speakers, wires and cables just disappear when all is said and done. br / br /I have not done the auto speaker eq/setup and may not bother since it sounds good right out of the box. The HDMI in and out setup was a snap. I got a Sony Blu-Ray at the same time so now I am cooking with gas. My new Blu-Ray and old DVD movies look and sound amazing. I strongly recommend a solid universal remote control to alleviate MRM (multi-remote-madness). Good luck and high scoring!

5 out of 5 stars Just what the doctor ordered.   November 4, 2009

Easy setup, sounds great, and I've got expandability to 7.2 channels when I'm ready. The video processing has been a pleasant surprise. Either my eyes are easy to please or the complaints about the upconverting of analog sources was incorrect. Also, the Audyssey room calibration stuff is slick! Pull the mic to the sweet spots, hit Enter, and walk away. Either this new receiver sounds 100x better than my old Sony, or the calibration I've been doing with my sound meter has been way off. Anyway I'm very, very pleased with this receiver.

5 out of 5 stars nice receiver, good value   November 3, 2009

I did a bit of research before buying the Onkyo Tx-SR607 7.2-Channel A/V Surround Home Theatre Receiver. This was a replacement of my Denon 7.1 receiver that had been in my HT room for 6 or 7 years. The lack of HDMI ports forced me to look for a new receiver. I had almost bought an Onkyo instead of the Denon back then. The Denon turned out to be just OK (relative to this new receiver)with hard to understand userguide and poor setup procedures. br / br /The Onkyo is the opposite, quick connection and setup. I was really happy with the Audyssey 2EQ which does an auto evaluation of your speakers and environment setting the audio to the best settings. Simply put the provided microphone at ear level where you sit and launch the setup. I had in the past used my handy dandy Radio Shack sound meter to manually set the volume on the 7.1 speakers. br / br /The resulting sound is noticably more defined. This receiver brought new life to my sound system and HT room. Even my wife noticed who is not one to pay attention to sound quality.... br / br /As I had read the Onkyo runs a little hotter than my Denon but that seems to be normal. br / br /All and all I am happy with the price and performance and would buy again. br / br /

5 out of 5 stars Excellent value   November 2, 2009

After slowly converting everything to HDMI amd using a 5-port HDMI switcher and 3 remotes for every time I switched an input, this is so slick. I up (?) graded from a Onkyo DS797 after 9 years. That is down 10 watts per channel and I do notice a little lower punch, but more than enough for my space. That is using the set up mike, but manually I can up each channel a few db, so is not that much of a con. This was my first "set-up mike" receiver. I did have to back off my sub woofer a couple of notches to knock out heavy breathing. But that is related to sources. Easily switches between inputs and did away mith a multitude of cables. Have been waiting for a high number of HDMI inputs and this works at 40% of what I paid for my previous receiver. It does not, however work with my current (MOXI) dvr. There is a warning that it may not work with some, but that dvr is about 4 or more years old. When it conks out, I hope the cable company replacement is compatible. I have ways of working around it though. The remote is probably half the size of my old one and have no problem with its size, altho the macros are not available on this one. Have a couple of speakers for the high front Dolby x, but my jury is still out. THX is not worth an extra [...] bucks to me. br /Overall, for the money, inputs, power, this Onkyo is pretty tough to beat

5 out of 5 stars ONKYO IS THE WAY TO GO!   October 23, 2009

This as all the bells and whistles you'll ever neen: six HDMI inputs, two component inputs digital and coax audio inputs, HD upconversion, bi-amping, HDMI pass through, and on screen set up. I loved this reciever from the moment I turned it on. The HD picture quality was stunning, the sound was amazing, and the set up was a breeze thanks to the on-screen menu which was very handy because the unit's front display was broken! I couldn't tell what volume I was on or what sound setting I was on; and I still loved this reciever. I simple repackaged it and waited for its replacement. It was upsetting that I had to do that, but this reciever is so amazing that it was worth every penny and the hassle of the return. The broken unit I would give three and a half stars! If you have Blu-ray and or HD cable/satilite buy this reciever. You will not be dissapointed.
