4 out of 5 stars Really good price, works fine for me   September 27, 2008
Laura I (Andrews AFB, MD United States)
I've had this printer for over a year now and I've never had any problems with it. Printing is of good quality, albeit slow, but i expect that from an ink jet printer like this. The ink cartridges are about $20 a piece, so I've been refilling mine with one of those 'cartridge refill' kits you can buy for about $9. I do use the scan and copy functions quite frequently and the quality with that is also great. I can't comment on the fax option because I've never used it. Over all, if you're looking for a cheap printer and this is all you can afford, then I recommend it over similar priced models.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!! Unbelievable Scan Speed and Quality   August 8, 2006

I've had a lexmark z-11 for nearly 10 years now and never had one problem with it. A few years ago, I thought I'd buy a really nice printer with all the fancy doo dads so I spent 500 bucks on a Canon with the separate ink cartridges and everything. It was horrible to set up and use, the software was awful, the print icon was always giving errors and finally, six months later, it just wouldn't print anymore. That was some real garbage. Completely opposite of the reputation but I find that kind of stuff is usually over rated. People say that expensive stuff is better and it's not always true.

So, now I have to replace the canon and I've gone back to a lexmark. This thing scans at lightning speed! It's simply unbelievable. For years we've wanted to archive magazine articles onto disk and get rid of the hard print stuff but the old flatbed scanners were so slow we'd quit after a day of it having done not even one issue. With this new scanner - we were done in a long weekend with EVERYTHING. OCR is perfect and it will even flip a page around automatically if you scan it upside down. The print quality is perfect and the machine is whisper quiet.

I can't understand why so many people seem to have so much trouble with lexmark. I've heard nothing but good things about them and that's been my experience as well. As for the tech that had trouble installing the driver - sounds like a bad disk. I would've downloaded the driver in that case. I've also never had trouble with cartridges drying out or running out of ink. Seems to me like the cartridges print nearly forever unless you are printing reams of full color web pages and photos.

I don't see how anyone could hope to find something better than this even at twice the price. Oh, the lexmark printers do seem to be notorious for looking like they are dragging a sheet of paper thru the feeder slightly crooked but they always seem to end up printing straight.
