Product Description The CanoScan LiDE 20 USB flatbed scanner is one of the world's most compact flatbeds - still, it offers big performance and big savings. Just over an inch high, it packs in all the features you need to scan images, copy documents or e-mail your favorite photos. All with true "one-touch" operation. The LiDE 20 scanner is so intuitive and easy to use, first-time users can get expert results in remarkable color resolution up to 600 x 1200 dpi and up to 48-bit depth with over 281 trillion possible colors. To scan, just place the photo on the platen and push the "scan" button - that's it. "Copy" and "e-mail" functions are just as simple. Set up and operation is made even easier with just one cable for power and USB - no extra AC adapter needed.Scan multiple photos at once with the push of a button. "Multi-Scan mode" is automatically activated and scans all the pictures in a single pass, preparing a separate image file for each. It will even adjust any slightly misaligned photos. Scanning multi-pages into a PDF file is just as easy. Innovative software even allows you to save your images directly to CDs as easily as scan, click and burn. The LiDE 20 scanner is small but can tackle the big jobs. The exclusive Z-Lid expansion top lifts 1" high and stays flat for scanning books and magazines. Most other scanner covers lift only at an angle, often resulting in poor scans. Canon integrated QARE 2.0 (Quality Automatic Retouching and Enhancement) technology is designed to help perfect every scan by automatically removing much of the dirt and scratches from images, helping you to look like a pro.

Decent Scans, Practical... Tricky to Install. July 4, 2008 S. Ovadia Canon, in general, makes some of the very best graphic accessories you can buy. For what it is, the LiDE 20 despite its age is no exception. br / br /For those unfamiliar, the LiDE scanners are very thin, lightweight and run on USB power only. Because no external (AC) power source is available, the LiDE 20 sometimes draws insufficient power from USB hubs, but works great when connected directly to the PC. Most importantly, its ability to run from USB power (rare for a scanner) lets it bypass different voltages, making it an asset for international travel. br / br /Though I didn't expect great scan quality from the LiDE 20, it's surprisingly crisp on simple office documents and isn't even bad on more elaborate or colorful subjects, capturing decent detail albeit with some occasional lines. The quality is fine if just above average, and more than passable if you're not looking for A+ results. Despite its graphical limitations, the LiDE 20 isn't a fast scanner. I imagine such things could make this scanner seem unappealing, but this isn't a scanner to bank on for scan quality or speed (as there are plenty better for that), but instead for the great practicality that it offers. br / br /Regardless, the LiDE 20 really is flawed with regards to its installation and drivers. Don't expect Canon's USA website to help much, as the downloadable installs rarely give Windows XP the correct drivers. My best successes usually come from running Canon's automatic install (a Java application located on Canon's support site site), which I remember using on Canon USA and Canon Australia. I've never used the LiDE 20 on a Mac, but understand it's possible. I did once lend it to a friend for their OSX Tiger, but got nothing but complaints about the install. I've also never tried to install the LiDE 20 in Vista, though there's always an off chance Canon released normal drivers for that... (I'm quite skeptical.) br / br /Its driver issues are all that've stopped me from going out of my way to configure the LiDE 20 on multiple PCs for swapping. But as I've had to do this out of necessity a few times (all in XP), this scanner used to be a staple of mine in quite a few PC environments, including notebook PCs. br / br /So, would I recommend this product? Well once it's installed, absolutely. If you can get it on the cheap and need a compact scanner for travel or to store for less frequent scanning, the LiDE 20 is an excellent choice with mostly reliable results. If you want better quality scans or faster speed with all the benefits of the LiDE 20, simply compare the LiDE 20 against the newer CanoScan LiDE models and see what works for you.
Amazing Easy To use Skinny Scanner March 31, 2006 SAM FRIEDMAN (Flushing, NY United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The CanoScan from Canon might just be the easiest Scanner with Great software. After installing the Software that guides you along the way, your pretty much done. Without the need of any power cables, you just hook up one USB Port and press one of the three buttons, Scan, copy or E-Mail . The Software starts up automatically and includes a few programs including a photo album called photobase 3that stores the scanned images and letting imports from any device such as cameras. The photo editor they use is photo studio 5 similar to other programs but with more features. Although you could use other programs to do these tasks, Canon links the scanner, album and editing tools for you eliminating any conflicts. br / A real selling point is you can pick up this great scanner for under $50.00 which is incredible considering the compact size and the name Brand.
Definately good stuff March 26, 2006 K. Cheung (NJ USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this scanner because I read an online review that said it was good for artwork and photos and true to the words, it's great for both. I have never had any problems with installation or scanning my artwork. There is never any garbage stuff that shows up and in my experience it is great.
Affordable and reliable scanner July 22, 2005 Travis Swift (South Africa) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this scanner to replace my older 300x600 scanner and I am very pleased. The scanner plugs into the USB port on the computer with no AC adapter required. Its slim and light, and fits easily with my laptop in the laptop bag. br / br /Its scans quite fast, but makes a relatively loud noise, which is the only thing I dislike about it. Well done Canon.
A Great Little Scanner November 3, 2004 L. Mckay (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a fabulous scanner/copier. br /I bought it almost a year ago from Amazon.com and just installed it. If I'd known what a great little machine it is, I would have installed sooner! br /Installation was a breeze. The scans and prints are clear. There is even a copier feature on this unit! And it comes with a stand so it can be used upright and it takes up less space. br /If you're in the market for a scanner, buy this one!
