 Drivers for XP? January 29, 2008

I do not really understand the missing or scarcely obtainable driver for XP matter. I have just bought an old instance of this scanner, and XP supports it natively, there is no need the UMAX driver at all. I checked the properties of the native driver, it belongs to Microsoft and its creation date is on 2001. There is (Sane) support in Linux too. So far I'm content with the device, at least it was worth of buying for $12.

You MUST install the AS355.exe drivers first and THEN: Run a patch file called "vista_XP.exe" br /Your scanner will come to life and work perfectly if you follow this procedure.

I bought an Astra 1220u when it originally came out and have had it for over five years. It has worked perfectly all this time, and the output is excellent, even when using the standard settings. The drivers are compatible with Photoshop, and were easy to use and customize. That said, I've only used it on a Mac, so I don't know how good the Windows software is.
