Canon's newly developed Pigment Reaction (PgR) ink system incorporates a higher-intensity black pigment, a clear ink, and specially formulated color pigment inks for superior results for all your prints. This unique system coats the paper with clear ink before it reaches the print head, helping the colors more effectively bond together for better saturation and brightness. And since each color comes in its own tank, you only need to replace the color that runs out, reducing waste and saving you money. Offering prints at up to 4800 x 1200 dpi color resolution, photos exhibit continuous tone and look like they are fresh from the photo lab. In addition to the PgR ink system, the printer has a print head capable of producing two-picoliter ink droplets for exacting detail. You don't have to wait long for your prints either--a 4 x 6-inch borderless print takes only about 43 seconds. When printing business documents, the MX7600 churns out prints at up to 28 pages per minute (ppm) in mono, and 23 ppm in color. Because the printer has two paper feeders, less time needs to be spent loading or changing media. With a built-in duplexer, you don't have to waste your time standing by the printer flipping sheets when you want to print on both sides. And you don't have to wait for the machine to slowly start up either; the unit is ready for use in about five seconds after power up. Bottom Line: This is a good multifunction inkjet. All functions range from adequate to very good.
Pros: The scanner is very good, with an auto feeder, and scan quality is good for both documents and photos. The print speed and quality is good. Having 2 paper sources (bottom plain paper cassette, rear feeder) is a time saver. The auto-duplex printing is very handy. Fax quality is good. Auto feeding for faxes is nice, but not something I will use that much. Builtin networking, so I don't need to have a PC continuously powered up when the family laptops want to print. Photo prints have good detail and shading. Printing directly from various memory cards and cameras is easy.
Cons: Photo prints colors need some tweaking. It's all a bit bright with a tendency toward a very slight pink cast. Admittedly, I have not done that many color photos as yet. Tones and shades are not as accurate as a printer with more colors. This one has 6 ink tanks, but 2 of them are shades of black, so printing must be done with 4 colors. This printer is adequate for amateur snaps, but won't replace a dedicated photo printer. No scanning of film or negatives. Printer is large but that's a given with this many functions.
