Small business owner September 1, 2008 NC Cabinets (Salem, OR United States) Works great as a business printer. Very fast output. However the photo quality is very poor. I had the Officejet D145 which had superior photo print quality. I am going to have to purchase a separate printer to print my brochures.
Impressive-Fast July 29, 2008 Joseph Abramo (Ottawa, Canada) I have this unit for almost a week now and all I can tell is nothing but positive feedback. I am totally impressed with this printer. It prints fast and I mean fast. At 35ppm it is impressive to see the results. Laser like quality and excellent color. I bought this unit to consulidate my 3 other printers to one unit doing something good for the environment as well as space saving. The fax, printer, copier, scanner features are working like a charm. I am very particular when it comes to printing as I have been with the rest of my printers and so far this one is a true SOHO printer. At about 2300 pages per month with one cartridge which is the XL type, it is amazing how inkject have come a long way for such massive production. It is highly recommended. I'm not sure why so many people have so much problem with this unit and I'm not exactly sure if this printer meets their expectation for that price. The truth is you get what you pay for and in my case paying $265 was worth the wait and new technology. Make sure you use the recommended paper. It is impressive when printed on HP White Bright Inkject with colorlok technology.
Great device July 26, 2008 Jason Emery (Maple Valley, WA USA) This is a great device for what it is. We have had no technical problems and the quality and features are great. We have multiple computers setup to use the 7680 as a fax, scanner, and printer. That would be extremely hard to do any other way. Even better, the front panel allows a lot of control without even using a computer - scan photos or multipage duplex documents to flash card, computer, or network storage, send fax, make copies etc... My only gripe would be the photo scanning speed - it seems to scan the full glass at full resolution as a preview so it takes forever (5 minutes?). It does some cool things from there, like auto-detect multiple photos on the same screen, zoom, rotate etc... We've had a few minor issues which can be expected with a complicated and extremely versatile device like this. Haven't had to call tech support though - we would definitely buy it again.
Works just fine with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS July 22, 2008 R. D Johnson (Cedar Ridge, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My mom (in her late 60's) has been running Linux for years as her main system, because I'm her tech support and I gave up on Windows a decade ago. I've had her running Ubuntu for a few years with minimal issues. When her old printer died last week, she went to a well-known brick-and-mortar outfit and settled on either this printer or a similar Canon (she loves the AIO printers for their copy capabilities). I told her to go with the HP because HP offers Linux support, and Canon doesn't. I've always had issues with AIO's in Linux though, and dreaded the thought of hooking this printer up. I have to say, though, I was amazed at how well this printer works under Ubuntu. I connected the USB cable, and the printer was instantly recognized as a 7600 series. The print driver (at least on Open Office) gives access to the duplex modes and other settings, and both B/W and color printing worked flawlessly from the get-go. I then tried xsane, and sure enough, it identified the scanner on the printer. I tried color scans, multi-page ADF scans, etc., and it all worked with zero setup on my part. Amazing. I give HP four stars for some excellent linux drivers and a fully functional printer. The remaining star I left off due to a few issues that have nothing to do with Linux. One, I haven't heard a printer make this much noise since the old lineprinter days of yore. Secondly, it's fast in single-page mode, but duplex mode is *much* slower because it pauses 10-15 seconds for the ink to dry before it runs the paper back in for the backside printing. Third, it takes 2-3 minutes for the printer to warm up after you turn it on. I never did try the network connection as my mom doesn't have a switch, so I can't say how well this printer would work with Linux in a networked environment. So, if you are running a recent version of Linux this printer should work fine for you, and you won't experience the bloated driver problems that the Windows and Mac folks seem to be having. It is a less polished offering than the current Canon models, though. Too bad Canon can't see fit to supply Linux drivers for their products.
Great product for the price July 21, 2008 H. Devore (Huntington Beach, CA) I have gone through a few printers. For work, I do a lot of printing. This printer has lasted longer than most so far, and it's still going. It prints fast, and good quality prints. The display screen is nice. Setup is fairly simple. It's very user friendly. I love the USB slots. Only complaint - I have to set my margins smaller than I have in the past. For some reason it doesn't print to the far left side of the page. I've messed around to figure out why and can't find a reason, or solution. Not a huge problem, I only have to adjust to about 1/4 inch of the page. I think this printer is the best deal for it's price range.
