A Fine Shredder January 1, 2008 Earnhardt (Wood River, IL United States) Have used this shredder for several months. Destroyed about two baskets of paper in one sitting, without overheating, never putting more than two sheets in at a time, letting each group of paper complete it's shred. This is the third shredder I've owned and it is well worth the extra money. Avoid the ones on sale - just remember, you get what you pay for. Take care of it, don't overload it and it will last a long time.
This is an excellent product March 28, 2007 Cat o' Nine Tails (San Francisco, CA United States) I have been through 2 or 3 low-end Fellowes shredders, and they suck. I do a fair amount of shredding (I shred all credit card offers, all my bills, all my receipts, etc) and I really like this product. First the good: its shredding capability is very good (though not excellent) I very rarely have to revert the mechanism to clear a jam. The handful of times I have had to (and I was at or slightly beyond the edge of its 15 sheet rating) it unjammed very easily. Once I had to unjam a CD but that was at the end of a 40 minutes shredding marathon (clearing our old archives) otherwise, no problem at all. Now the great: it's big (good capacity), ergonomic, reliable. It looks pretty nice too. A great buy.
If you what to Shred - This is the Product!!! November 6, 2006 M. Lampey (Colorado, United States) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
If you're having second thoughts about purchasing this device for home security, don't, it's worth every penny! Over the past few years, I have purchased three entry level shredders ($60 or less) prior to the Royal 15-Sheet Heavy-Duty Crosscut Shredder, and I encountered every problem there was to encounter. One model actually crushed it's own system board the first time I powered it on - can you believe that!! As for the Royal, I have had it for almost 14 months now, and it has performed flawlessly in the context of how I use it: 1. I Shred approx 150-200 sheets per week 2. I Shred 1-3 pages at a time, not more 3. I Remove all non paper elements (mainly the glue used to hold down advertisement credit cards (Very Bad for Shredders), paper clips, etc.) Following the above usage for approx. 10,000 pages, it has NEVER jammed, never acted 'funny', or in any other way not performed. Another great feature about this shredder is that it's oil free, you don't have to worry about messing around with those oil impregnated sheets anymore. In one of the reviews, I read that someone had problems with the CD shredding feature. Now, I have only shredded a few (5 or 6) compact disks since I've owned the Royal, but I haven't encountered any of the failures documented here. The Royal 15-Sheet Heavy-Duty Crosscut Shredder, uses 1/8" solid steel teeth to tear the paper, not the cheap rotary sheet metal disks that bend easily. It has three easy to use buttons: On/Off, Forward, and Reverse. The On/Off button is backlit, so it's easy to see if the device is on or off. The LCD is easy to read with simple text messages. The catch basket is large and holds about 200 sheets of shredded paper. One side note, like all shredders I have owned - there's really no such thing as a quite shredder. If your in the market to purchase a good personal use shredder, this is worth the price. Stay away from the cheaper models, there just not worth the hassle. And I can promise you, you will have problems with them.
