Users can select whether to output the DSD (Direct Stream Digital) signal in its native format or convert it into PCM. The BDP-83 incorporates Anchor Bay's award-winning Video Reference Series (VRS) technology, and delivers a picture that is cleaner, smoother, true-to-life and free of artifacts.For users who wish to use an external video processor, high-end audio/video receiver or display, the BDP-83 offers a "Source Direct" mode. The original audio/video content on the discs is sent out with no additional processing or alteration. The BDP-83 supports multiple levels of aspect ratio control and image zooming, including a vertical stretch mode for customers with a 2.35:1 CIH (Constant Image Height) display system.The BDP-83 features a dedicated 2-channel analog output with specially optimized digital-to-analog converters and output driving stage. The BDP-83 comes with a fully back-lit remote control for ease of use in dark home theaters. I can spend all day writing about this Blue Ray/DVD player but, it's been written and detailed so well in the other reviews already. I have read most of the other reviews and Ditto. The OPPO BDP-83 is truely all that they say and well worth the purchase price. Highly quality, easy to install, use (I am a non-techie), and operate. The cream of the crop, simply the best!

As someone who does extensive research on any product before purchasing and noticing the extensive positive reviews on this player, I was very much looking forward to getting it and giving it a spin to see what all the hype was about.

br /The first thing that got my attention was the build quality of the Oppo and its added accessories, which in my opinion surpassed almost all the components in this price range.
br /
br /The second thing is that after setting up the Oppo, which proved to be a surprisingly easy task considering all this machine is capable of, I was not at all disappointed with what I saw and heard.
br /
br /I proceeded to try all the varying disc that I currently have in my possession, including SACD's, original DVD's, DVD-R's, red book CD's, etc, and they all played with very little fuss and played exquisitely while doing it.
br /
br /As mentioned before what was surprising to me was the ease of which this player was able to setup and operate; the user manual and the user interface was very straight forward and simple, especially considering that some of my other components were and still is an absolute pain to deal with but otherwise works well.
br /
br /I would wholeheartedly recommend this product, especially if u have any SACD's or DVD audio disc lying around.
br /
br /One very slightly negative comment is that while trying to play "Hellboy II" it got stuck at the point of loading but after turning power off and then back on again this problem was no more, but other than that absolutely no issues.
