Product Description NME HD VMD Multilayer Player ML622s High definition playback delivers 1080i/p resolution at up to 40mbps transfer rate, 6xhigher than DVD or even HDTV, with 24-25 frames per second, delivering an ultra crisp, realistic picture. Advanced audio decoding, including Dolby , Dolby Digital and DTS , bringing a surround sound cinema experience into your home. Backwards compatibility means you can enjoy your existing library of DVDs and CDs, upconversion/ upscaling to 1080p using HDMI. NME features an intuitive on screen menu and navigation bar, making your HD experience simple and enjoyable. Key Video Features HD VMD playback (including Combo. Format Discs), DVD, DVD+R/+RW, CD, CD-R/-RW. High Definition video requires a tremendous amount of space on a disc, so NME has developed a Versatile Multilayer Disc (VMD), a revolutionary design in optical storage, allowing data to be stored on 3, 4 or 5 layers and read by a standard Red Laser. Multilayering allows for more than 4 times the amount of information on a single side disc, out performing other competing HD mediums on image playback. Native encoding means image playback is accurate and true to the original film. This gives HD VMD a faster data transfer rate, allowing it to handle frames rates (frames per second) better than many other HD mediums, and does not require any firmware updates. Supports a wide range of codecs processes and compressed video including MPEG-2, MPEG-1, VC-1 and H-264(AVC). The ML622s Player allows DVD up-conversion via HDMI video to: HDMI sends compressed digital video to your HDTV with 1080i/p resolution, a perfect fit for all HD Ready and Full HD Television displays. HD VMD Just As Good As Blu-Ray At Half the Price January 11, 2008 DeathToK-Fed (Los Angeles, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The picture quality on the HD VMD is amazing, I only saw it demoed, but compared to what I see in the B&M stores, the picture quality is every bit as good as Blu-ray. Not to mention the titles MSRP at $17.49, while Blu-ray titles MSRP at $29.99-$39.99. If HD VMD gets more studio support, it's over for Blu-ray.
One more Hi Def Format to Compete With... January 9, 2008 N. Trakosas (Toronto, ON. Canada) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have HD DVD and Blu-Ray, and now we have HD VMD. I really like HD VMD due to its wonderful competative price but right now that format lacks Studio Support. HD DVD is by far the best Hi Def Format available today. But for it's great price, I recommend it to anybody looking for a great collection of movies in full 1080p Hi Def and a great player.
This sounds like the way to go for HD December 29, 2007 R. Lorgus 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I wanted to counter that fool Brett's review. This looks like the way to for HD. It has no regional coding like Blu-Ray and seems a much better alternative than HD-DVD. Read more about HD VMD by doing a websearch. I think you will be impressed.
Realistic limitations... October 30, 2007 John A. Mclaughlin Jr. (Wash, D.C.) 13 out of 18 found this review helpful
I was so amazed at the ignorance of the one-star review I had to stop and add this additional piece of data. To further clarify this units technical limitations let me further specify that it "does not" play music cassette tapes, VHS tapes, Beta tapes, 45/78 RPM platters, or the wax cylinders of Edison's day. However It does a wonderful job of playing a diverse amount of media it was designed to play including the current DVD's we have been using from the inceetion of DVD's. Read the technical data provided to see all it does do and ignore the nonsense written below.
