4 out of 5 stars Good Value   August 17, 2008
Mr. Sven Hansen (Los Angeles, CA)
I own two of these (bought the first, and then needed the second one for other car). Once 1 of them froze, but after pressing the reset button, it worked OK. Otherwise a good unit that plays all media, good Bluetooth for hands free, has an excellent sound compared to a Panasonic unit I had before. Overall a very good value.

4 out of 5 stars Great features, some annoyances..   August 3, 2008

This is a car sterio that packs a lot of features into a DIN1 size. I put it ino my 1996 Mustang and hooked it up to the factory amp. To do that I also bought a wire harness kit at Walmart (less than $10) and had to use the radio power ant lead to provide a "radio on" signal for the Bose factory amp as the radio itself does not provide a radio on lead.

Pros: Features, bluetooth seems to work great (see cons), works with everything I've thrown at it including bluetooth from my phone (talk and music), SD cards, USB drives, MP3 CDs. It's wonderful to have the radio automatically muted when a phone call comes in. Sound (at least to my ears) is very good.

Cons: On occasion the bluetooth didn't reconnect to my phone. I'm not sure if this is the radio or my phone. Call quality coming over the car speakers is great, but some people have reported problems hearing me. I've only used the built in MIC, not the remote MIC. Which leads me to my next con... the MIC jack is only available on the front of the system. Therefore, in order to use the remote MIC I have to have this cord sticking out the front of the unit. I would have preferred a jack in the back so that I could have wired the MIC in when I installed the unit. The Bluetooth phone link does not work with the phones address book, so you can't cycle through addresses to place a phone call using the radio... still have to use the phone for that (you can store some numbers on the radio, but that seems backward to me.)

3 out of 5 stars Big product low Support   July 18, 2008

UI just buy and install my radio couple of weeks ago, it works great, sound (music and phone) quality is great, all functions work fine, using the internal mic the call quality is good enough but using the additional mic the quality improves a lot. It only support a 1MB SD card but it works ok with my 2MB SD
But my device have a great issue, any time I detach the front panel is restart to fabric default when I connected it again, I lost all the configuration so I have to start all over again (except the Bluetooth). I send a mail to VR3 support team but they never respond I'm still trying to fix this problem

5 out of 5 stars good, but not great   July 12, 2008

Review EDIT!!! [7/16/08]
I am returning this unit for the following reasons:
- Cannot search SD card by folder/album...searching through 300 songs per disk is extremely frustrating. It says this is possible in the manual but it is not. Major issue with me!

- All presets are lost when faceplate is removed for more than a few hours.

- The controls are ridiculously difficult. ARRGHH!!!

- Needs more bass

Sorry VR3/Roadmaster, you've failed me twice and STILL haven't replied to any of my emails or phone calls.

End of Edit
----------------------

I returned my bug-riddled VR400, and ordered this one instead, giving VR3 another chance. I love this unit! You get a lot for your $128, including free shipping. I don't even use the bluetooth yet (need a new phone) and the value is still great.

There are a LOT of controls on this unit, and on the remote. The menus can be a little tricky to figure out at first, sometimes more than just a little, but you get used to it. Keep your user manual in the car for awhile.

This unit is far superior to the VR400 (which I returned to Wal-Mart). The VR400 skipped the beginning of all my SD songs...this one does not. The sound is a LOT better. I just now noticed that the user manual says it only supports 1GB SD cards, but it does support 2GB.

The radio has RDS, which means it will display the name of the station you are listening to, as well as song title and artist name. Maybe this is standard on most stereos now, I don't know, but I like it.

Pros:
- loaded with great features at a great price.

- Sound is very good and pretty loud, at least on my speakers, which are stock 2002 Mazda 626. It cranks!

- Subwoofer control (I don't have a sub though).

Cons:
- menu navigating is very confusing, but it's hard to pack that many features into a unit without compromizing a little.

- Tech support sucks (I contacted them regarding the other unit I purchased)...never took me off hold, NEVER returned my calls after leaving a message with the operator, NEVER even replied to my emails. After 4 days! I did call about purchasing a waranty and they called me back for that.

I've only had this for one day so hopefully it holds up over time. SO SO glad I traded in my 400 for this model!

I am {edit:no longer] VERY happy with this stereo!

I do not recommend purchasing anything from this company. I gave them 2 chances and they failed me.

4 out of 5 stars Good Unit   June 30, 2008

So far this has been a great unit. I esp. like all of the interfaces available: USB, SD-card, BlueTooth, and Line-In. I bought a 16gig SDHC card for my portable MP3 player and it came with a USB adapter, so I can play my music on this unit as well. It may have a limit to the number of titles it will read, but I haven't had time to test that for sure yet (I think I got an error that it read over 700 or 800 titles or something - but it started playing and lasted through a 6-hour drive without repeating so...)
