Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
AutoPilot is a sleek, low profile power adapter and iPod controller that plugs into the cigarette lighter or power socket in your dashboard or console. AutoPilot's illuminated knob gives you controls for Play/Pause and Track Forward/Backward. You get tactile feedback that lets you keep your eyes on the road. It's the perfect complement for iPod touch or any iPod while driving. You never have to glance down or touch the face of your iPod. AutoPilot uses a line-level output jack to send the best possible sound from your iPod to your car stereos equipped with Auxiliary-In jacks.

5 out of 5 stars Works great - 5 volt (USB) charger   September 3, 2008
T. Smith (Canada)
Good
- sounds much better then the FM transmitter I used with my old car (didn't have an AUX input).
- Basic controls (Play/Pause, Forward, Back) easy to reach, no need to fiddle with the ipod while I'm driving!
- Lighted controls easy to find at night at a glance.
- 5 Volt charger (future proof). Most in car chargers are 12 volts (left over from FireWire) 12 Volt charging will no longer be supported starting with the iPhone 3G. This should work with the new batch of iPods that are said to be released latter this month.
-Uses line out on the Doc connector (no need to crank the volume on the iPod). Has Hi/Low output switch (Hi = line level, low = headphone level)
- Price. 1/3 the price of an after market interface for the Honda stereo (and it is 12V) and 1/8 the price of the rip-off Honda iLink interface (12 volts again).

Not so good
- While charging the light fades between bright, dim and back. A bit distracting in the corner of my eye. Since the colour changes (red - no iPod attached, amber - charging, green - charged) they don't need the disco light show.

If you have a car stereo with an AUX input this is just what you need to get your iPod playing in the car.

5 out of 5 stars Clear and Crisp   August 30, 2008

Griffin has always done a great job with their products. The AutoPilot has been an amazing asset to my car. Before, it was just the AUX IN and I would have to adjust the sound through the IPOD and the sound system of the car. With this, I can adjust the volume just through my sound system and it sounds amazing. I've always tried the radio transmitter ones and they just don't sound as good compared to the AUX IN. Charging the IPOD at the same thing and being able to hide it away too is a great thing. Also, the capability of changing songs is a lot easier instead of trying to find it.

5 out of 5 stars charges and plays ipod in car!   August 6, 2008
Consumer extraordinaire (Detroit)
This is pretty much the only thing I found that will play the ipod in my car through the auxiliary port, and charge it at the same time, all in one unit at a reasonable price. Decent sound quality, probably not top-notch but I don't have a top-notch stereo anyway - way better than the Monster FM tuner I used to use.

Another plus, the cords are not too long like on some products. Controls on unit work OK, but I mostly still just use the ones on my ipod nano. Everything plugged right into my car's aux and power ports and worked without problem.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty much the best car accessory for the iphone in existence.   July 21, 2008
Jeremy Tatelman (Fort Collins, CO USA)
I would've given this five stars except it's not technically supported so it doesn't get a perfect rating.

As the other reviewers have mentioned, this plug is compatible with both the first generation and second generation iphones. Since the phone locks itself after a short period of time, it's a pain to skip songs. This device allows you to do so without unlocking the phone and it also charges things up. It works with any 1/8" miniplug output: aux inputs on your car stereo, tape adapters, etc. As long as your lighter plug is somewhere convenient, I can't see this being a bad purchase for anyone with an iphone or ipod touch.
