The ER16-CM4-256 Control Module (CM4) for the X-Pedition ER16 maximizes the market-leading performance and functionality of the Enterasys X-Pedition switch router family. Delivering the latest in Layer 3 switching technology, the CM4's 400 MHz R7000a RISC processor is highly integrated and optimized for processing critical packet information found in enterprise networking environments. Maximum system capacity and future management enhancements are made possible by 256 MB of system memory. The CM4 control module is compatible with all X-Pedition ER16 chassis and connectivity modules, and is designed to smoothly integrate into the backbone of your existing infrastructure.Operating faster than the CM3 solution, the CM4 control module offers a higher performance microprocessor, allowing an increase in flow set-up rates, as well as providing additional management abilities. These management-intensive networking solutions include VoIP telephony, integrated voice, video and data and additional security features - all without replacing existing network hardware.In addition, the CM4 offers an increase in performance for forwarding unknown traffic and Layer 3 learning. While the performance improvement is dependent on the traffic type, system configuration and health of the network, the CM4 offers the greatest performance benefit in an environment where a large routing table and low-connection latency is required.
