Works pretty well September 25, 2008 Keith Wilmesherr (Lake St. Louis) Had a tough time finding the signal at first. I didn't set it all that far away from the router, but once I found a good spot, I had about a fifty foot extended range. Again not as far as I would have liked, but it gets me halfway across the house and that's OK. I had no problems with this extender and Vista. I did not try to use it as a router. For a less expensive repeater and a short signal extension I will recommend this, but if you're looking for a long distant repeater you may want to try another unit. How to set up Extender as Ethernet bridge September 22, 2008 P. Wai (California, CA) The product works fine as an Extender. I am using it with my WRT54gs Linksys AP (flashed with sveasoft firmware), with WPA security. As mentioned by other members disregard the instructions from Belkin; use the ones from reviewer Chovy instead. Several reviewers discussed using the Extender as an Ethernet bridge. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to do it. Here are the instructions: - Follow the instructions to set up the Extender as a Repeater - Make sure your PC is still connected to the Extender using the enclosed cable - Set up your TCP/IP as such: IP:
Just Call Belkin Technical Support September 21, 2008 Stephen Schmidt (Chattanooga, TN) Don't fool with the very limited printed instructions, or try to follow any of the setup suggestions the nice people have posted here--they didn't work for me. Just call Belkin Technical Support direct and spend an hour on the phone with the adviser. I'm using it as a Range Extender in the same room with my wireless computer with security encoded and turned "on" now, and have "Excellent" Signal Strength about 40 feet and 3 walls away from a Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless Router. Used to be unreliable "Poor" to "Fair" signal strength.
Good product, good price, poor support September 18, 2008 Phillip Slepian (Elizabeth, NJ, USA) I am using this to strengthen an unencoded WiFi signal within my home. I called Belkin support when the receiver, when relocated near the remote location, would not pick up the signal it locked on to originally. I called Belkin support, and was told I had to configure the unit, even though I explained I was not using encryption. I figured that would be a weekend project, and left it alone. After a day or so, the flashing red indicator went out, and my signal strength on my remote PC went from "Very Low" to "Very Good" or "Excellent." These reviews were more helpful than the instructions or Belkin support. Overall, though, it's doing what I wanted it to.
