| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Product Description Offering amazing features for such an affordable price, Cyber Home's CH-DVD 500 makes a rich and promising starter player. It has everything from top-of-the-line progressive-scan component-video outputs to built-in MP3 decoding, JPEG image viewing, and a dual-laser pickup for compatibility with not only DVDs and CDs, but CD-Rs and CD-RWs as well. Whether you have an HDTV now or you're planning to get one, the CH-DVD 500 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Composite-video and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. With 3:2 pulldown support, the player corrects for a common distortion in DVDs when 24 frames-per-second movies make the leap to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown removes the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. The CH-DVD 500 is compatible with DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW media, handling just about any recordable disc. It even plays both PAL- and NTSC-formatted discs, handy when you're viewing non-region-specific European discs. A set of multichannel analog-audio outputs routes decoded Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround signals to an audio-video receiver. Dolby Digital and DTS signals can also be channeled through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and optical) for direct connection to a surround-featured AV receiver. The player has left-right analog audio outputs, too. Other features include 2x motion zoom, onscreen display (with MP3 navigation), programmable playback (including MP3 and JPEG files), and firmware upgradability. Supplied accessories include a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, instruction manual, a power cord, and a multifunction 44-key remote control.
Product Description The CH-DVD500 Cyber Home DVD Player is designed to provide a great Home Theater experience with super-crisp Video and thundering Digital Sound.

Time to move on - but the times were good July 7, 2008 G. Harcourt (San Antonio Texas) This was purchased from Best Buy 5 or 6 years ago (maybe even a bit earlier). It was cheap - not inexpensive but downright cheap. It has given me my money's worth without question. Plays DVDs that I have burned - music that I have burned to CD from Vinyl on my computer. But now it seems as though it is ready to give up the ghost. Fond farewell - it has been a good ride. New Samsung LCD to be delivered this week from Amazon. Time for a new DVD player to go with that unit and the Onkyo 606 I bought (but not yet installed).
Fine player at an excellent price! April 28, 2006 Kenneth W. Chapman (Houston, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Progressive scan, DTS, Dolby 5.1, Auto PAL or NTSC, region free (set it to Region 0 via the remote), component video output, selectable aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9), composite video and audio cables included. Put in any disc from any country and it plays. Beautiful picture and sound. What could be easier?
Sorry I am not happy with this item. March 24, 2006 Ckuppusamy 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
recently I bought this for my friend but I am not happy with this one, I have cyberHOme 300 that's very good and very cute.
Very good midrange DVD player March 23, 2006 Mr. Bharat Jataprolu (Columbus, OH, USA) I think CyberHome CH-DVD 500 Progressive-Scan DVD Player is very good. Its not you $30 basic payer. It has progressive scan and outputs, but sold for a reasonable $50. Pretty good so far
