Amazon.com Product Description Now you can make digital archives of your favorite VHS tapes and copy your homemade DVDs to share with friends and family on VHS. Sony's RDR-VX500 DVD recorder/VCR combo saves space while simplifying component hookups. Offering broad format flexibility through DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW versatility, the deck permits dubbing from VHS to DVD and from DVD to VHS (subject to Macrovision anti-piracy technology in the source media).P In addition, the recorder sports a handy i.Link digital-video interface so you can copy DV/Digital8 camcorder tapes directly to long-lasting recordable DVDs. Other features include progressive-scan output for DVD (480p) for high-quality video reproduction on high-definition and HD-ready TVs, JPEG digital image and MP3 music playback from CD-R/CD-RW, and VCR Plus+ programming for easy navigation and control.P Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.P
Product Description The RDR-VX500 is the perfect combination for your home theater. This DVD/VCR player has DVD+RW/+R, DVD-RW/-R recording compatibility and one button dubbing from VCR to DVD or DVD to VCR. With i.LINK Interface for DV/Digital8 Camcorders, Progressive Scan Technology Output for DVD at 480P and VCR Plus+ Timer Recording, the RDR-VX500 combines convenience and advance functionality for your viewing pleasure.

VHS Component Out... January 19, 2008 Gregory Tipton (Spring Hill, Tennessee) The main thing about this burner that distinguished it from the others was the ability to play VHS from the Component outputs. That feature is very handy for a pro-editor, like me, who wants to get the best image possible from the inferior VHS format. This feature also has allowed this deck, now that it has been retired, to be easily used by family members who aren't so tech-savvy (both DVD and VHS play from the same Component-Out, so there's no need to change inputs on the monitor). br / br /Other than that, I have to agree with many of the others here. The 8x disk limit is a major sore spot for me, as well as the poor dependability of burned DVDs in general... br /
Simple to use April 15, 2007 Michael Steele (Boca Raton, Fla) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was recommended by a friend, and I was able to pick up one used on the cheap. Sony's never break. My house is full of their products, and this new one is a great addition. If you're like me, I had a huge pile of camcorder tapes I wanted to copy to an easier format. Using an cam tape adaptor, you simply put that in the vcr, push one button and it dubs to DVD! It doesn't get easier than that. As far as the transfer, there is no drop out in quality of pic or sound. Very crisp resolution. You can also i.Link direct from the front face plate to record DVD's or vcr tapes.
