Amazon.com Product Description Get ready to jump into the future with the Akai PT4799HD 47-inch projection TV that's HD-ready. It offers a translucent onscreen display (OSD) system, dual HDTV component-video inputs, progressive-scan DVD component input, and a 30-watt audio system designed by professionally renowned BBE. It has a built-in 181-chanel NTSC tuner; you'll need a separate HDTV tuner to receive 1080i high-definition broadcasts. The PT4298HS offers dual-tuner picture-in-picture functionality, which allows you to view antenna inputs on both the main picture and subpicture simultaneously, with separate tuning control for each. The 3D digital comb filter, considered the best comb filter available, separates colors and eliminates distortion to give you a razor-sharp picture with breathtaking clarity. Tech Talk - Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines of video that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, indicated by a "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, like a computer display.
- Component video: Unlike a single video input, component video maintains the video signal as three separate signals through three jacks. This connection provides optimum quality. To ensure maximum picture quality, use three video-grade cables for the Y, Pb, and Pr connections.

Akai 4799 47 inch Rear Projection TV August 12, 2005 Coley Gross (Miami, Fl USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A cheaper version of the 4755 W both by Samsung!, AKAI 4799 does not have the HDTV connector, use the S-VIEO for cable/ sat. Samsung: 1 yr parts & labor, 2 yr CRTs, AKAI same except 90 labor! Great ENTRY Big Screen TV but may be a big GAMBLE given warranty? Connections NOT included: Extra Cable/Ant jack, NO DVI (HDTV), No Anynet, No Optical, NO Coaxial Has V. Pb, Pr so must purchase Set Top Box for HDTV! Only time will tell how well it was designed. I saw post about multiple burn outs during first weeks, difficulty getting parts (Avaiable only from Korea?) 90 days on labor has got me a bit scared but most TV's I have ever owned run years before needing repair or replacement. I hope the 90 day labor warranty is simply a strategy to keep the price low and not a reflection of how long the company expects the unit to last. Again only time will tell. Projection TV's are similar to owning 3 TV's since each one has three 7 inch picture tubes (CRTs). What I dislike the control panel design. The very 1st top button is the input option. This switch should be placed on the bottom. If accidentally pressed one must cycle through all 6 to 8 options TV/Compositet1 & 2/ Input 1 / Input 2/ S-Video and so on. It would be more logical to have the channel or volume as the first key, even the menu key would be ok. It should also be recessed. Advantage: Except for Menu related programing, most everything can be accomplished from the units own control panel without the remote. Should you decide to purchase this unit make sure you note my previous comment. Your multi unit remote controller will not work with this AKAI even if you use AKAI codes. You must use one of the SAMSUNG codes. I had good luck with both my Dish Network provided remote as well as a RCA Remote control I bought that runs 8 different items (The RCU 800) It doesn't support the MENU option but does everything else. A bit of a gamble but a great deal as long as they hold in there 3 to 5 years!
