The sound is awesome. Functionality...that's a different story September 25, 2008 Julian G. Romero (TEXAS) I upgraded from an older Kenwood surround sound system to the Samsung HT-AS720S, and I must say the sound is awesome. I was blown away by the full HD surround sound. It's louder, crisp and clear. I can hear so much more than I did with my older system. The subwoofer can put out some serious bass. If the system is set-up correctly you will enjoy theater quality sound right in your home. Functionality is a different bag. I currently have my PS3 and Xbox connected to the system. For the most part it works just fine, but every once in a while I have to shut-off the receiver and turn it back on when I hear static coming through. Haven't found out exactly how this happens. Most recently I purchased a brand new Samsung LCD TV. With my old DLP I had no video problems. With this TV connected to the receiver I get this message, "Mode not compatible". I have to turn off then turn on the system just to get a picture. This is discouraging when you consider that both the TV and surround sound system are both Samsung. Other than that, I really have no other gripe. The system is great and if you have several devices to connect, the receiver supports it. The system allows for 6 or 7.1 surround sound as well. I'm am very satified with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone.
Theater Sound at home September 14, 2008 Bobby J. Truong (Philadelphia, PA) Pros: Just got the Samsung AS720 Home Theater and let me say how impress that I am with the sound. It does liven the movie experience. The subwoofer right out of the box is heavy...and after listening to it...you can feel some heavy bass and thunder. Am surprised that its only 650 W but seriously do you need anything higher at home or the neighbors will call 911. Cons: the receiver is unnecessarily large...so i had a hard time fitting it into my glass tv stand...so I had to make some space sacrafices. Final Verdict: Delightfully pleased with theater home sound!
Great unit. Mine arrived DOA September 11, 2008 Adrian Michaud (East Coast, USA) When I received my HT-AS720, it wouldn't even turn on. As I started to closely inspect the unit, I discovered that the main 110v power connector inside of the unit wasn't connected to the power supply. I guess the connector was probably not fully seated and dislodged itself sometime during shipment. Samsung quality control wasn't very effective for this unit. Anyway, the unit works great and I have no complaints. It has very high quality channel amplifiers and the 4 full-range speakers sound very nice too. The sub also sounds great and appears to be high quality.
Great Receiver August 7, 2008 Jefferson Nunn 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought it to connect my PS3 and DirecTV H20 receiver together with my Samsung TV. I am really happy with the Samsung TV so I figured the Reciever would be a similar experience. I was upgrading from a Yamaha system I bought at Best Buy. The sound clarity is actually really good and the controls and setup is easy to do. The fact that Amazon offered free shipping while everyone else wanted $80+ for that was awesome. The first one I got from Amazon had an issue with the HDMI not working. I filled out the online form on Amazon to have it replaced and they shipped out a replacement ASAP and had a tag printed for the return. Buying from Amazon...It's way better than Best Buy. I think I'll buy all my electronics from here now on :-)
A pleasure to set up and great sound! August 6, 2008 L. Haney (California, USA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I purchased this product to connect to a Samsung hdtv and a Samsung upconverting dvd player. The remote controls all three (because they are all samsung) and when I put my first dvd in it turned on the tv and chose the correct reciever setting without even pushing a button. I was pretty impressed by this. Even though this is the first surround sound system that I have owned, it only took me about 45 minutes to set up. It still needs some tweaking, and I still need to hide the rear speaker cords, but I am very pleased with it so far. Nice design, looks sleek and elegant and the sound is awesome. I was glad that this system uses standard speaker wire (not plugs) so you can easily purchase more wire and run it around the edges of the room. The size was larger than I expected on both the reciever itself and the sub so people with small rooms may want to double check the size specifications. I would recomend this reciever to anyone because of the simple setup and great sound right out of the box. It also has the capability to be adjusted to odd shaped rooms with uneven speaker distances. It can later be expanded to 7.1 surround (blu-ray) with the purchase of another set of speakers.
