Would rate a 5 if not for the grids June 19, 2008 Dr. J (Niwot , Colorado) I'll pretty much echo what the other reviewers have said: The sound quality is phenomenal. It's full, with plenty of bass. I honestly did not expect anything to sound as good as they do in an outdooor setting. With regard to the grids, yep, they started to pop off after about 3 weeks. So, I went and got my wife's hot glue gun and put a bead in each corner, then snapped the grids back on. It looks like that did the trick.
Very happy with them. May 26, 2008 G. James (Bay Area, California) I've had the Atrium 60's for several months now, and are very happy with their performance. The sound quality is excellent, and they are holding up to the weather quite nicely. I have had the same issue with the grills falling off as the other reviewers, but I (gently and slightly) bent the grill into a smaller radius and it has stayed on since then. This would be a five star rating if the grill design had been better.
Great sound, irritating grills September 16, 2007 O. DEFAUX (London, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Beautiful sound throughout the range. Awesome power. But those grills keep falling off; hyper-irritating. Had to affix them with duct tape. Would have been a 5-star without this issue.
Great speakers - Grills, what can I say !?! September 8, 2007 w00dw0rker (San Jose, CA United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have had these speakers for a couple of months. They are mounted in my backyard and produce a very nice and crisp sound. I am very pleased and happy about the speakers and sound quality. So, the speakers get 5 stars! The grills however, are a different story. The industrial designer that came up with this idea probably looked at the sketch on the CAD/design program and figured it's very cool and they moved forward with it, without making a few prototypes and testing them for a period of time to see whether or not there are any issues. The perforated metal screen has very short lips and they fall out of the cut in the body of the structure easily, especially when the speakers are hanging at an angle from the wall. The mechanical engineer would have caught this, had they held a design review meeting, and they could have resolved this if they had seen the prototypes in action during the design phase. I'll have to look at them and see if there is a way to fix them so that they don't fall off, but then why did I pay the hefty price for these speakers in the first place? I hope the folks at Polk read this review and think twice next time they release a product. So, if you don't care about the grills, go for them, they are nice speakers, but the grills will not sit on them unless you use "superglue" or something else to hold them in place (not a recommendation obviously!!!)
Polk Atrium 60's rule June 8, 2007 R. Sneed (Missouri) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this speaker after several days of searching and reading and am so glad I did. I have Polk home theatre speakers and enjoy them, so I figured they made good outdoor products as well. I have them mounted in a weather exposed part of the house (not under the eave as recommended) so the mil spec water proof enclosure was a must. The speakers are crisp, and clear with distinct definition between highs, mids, and lows. I have them powered by a Denon AVR4800 and would highly recommend them. They are considerably larger than the picture seems to represent, but nonetheless a great speaker for the great outdoors.
