| Customer Reviews:
Full Rich Sound June 14, 2008 T. O'Keefe The Sangean WR-1 has the fullest and richest sound of any portable or tabletop radio I've ever had. Strangely, there are many excellent radios available today, but few have a satisfactory tone. This radio is the exception. In addition, the reception of both AM and FM is excellent. FM is sometimes a bit variable due to the wire antenna, which you sometimes have to place or hang just right for the best reception of certain stations. The other choice is to switch to the internal antenna. br / br /I wouldn't call this radio "nastalgic," but its classic design and simplicity do remind one of simpler days. The front of the WR-1 consists of three controls: volume, band selector, and tuning, as well as a tiny green tuning indicator and a lighted tuning dial. The back provides an external/internal antenna switch, terminals for a mediocre external FM wire antenna (included) and an external AM antenna (not included), an auxiliary input (for running a cassette or CD player through the radio), a record output, and a mono headphone output. br / br /As the picture shows, the WR-1 is very attractive, with a wooden case and silver face worthy of a living or dining room. The radio itself is fairly heavy and is supported by four rubber feet, which means you need not hold it in place when adjusting one of its controls. br / br /Because I consider sound quality to be of optimum importance, I can easliy give the WR-1 a five star rating. It is quite strong on the bass end of the sound spectrum, yet bright enough to balance out. The sensitivty also is excellent. I would highly recommend this radio, especially for listening to music. Its tone is superb for Bach and Mozart. It will also appeal to those who don't like complicated gadgets, but who want to turn a knob and instantly enjoy music, news, or talk radio without fuss. br / br /I have only one complaint. The WR-1 is fairly heavy on the bass end. For certain boomy acoustic environments, it probably would be overwhelming. The radio could have used, then, bass and treble controls to adjust the tone to the acoustics of the room. But other than this one remark, I have nothing but praise for this radio.
bass, treble April 7, 2008 spike only reason i gave it 4 stares is because it has no bass or treble br /control.
