Flawless September 2, 2008 G. Dhalla This is quite possibly the best album from Hathaway (counting even her collaboration with Sample). If you're in the mood for a Sade-type CD - consistent, smooth, nuanced and worthy of repeated listening, it doesn't get much better than this. My only reservation would be the CD artwork - it's as unexceptional as the album is sophisticated. This impeccable CD deserves a classier look.
Following Her Father's Legacy August 25, 2008 William m Coles (BALTIMORE, MARYLAND United States) Lalah Hathaway like Donny Hathaway has such a spirit in his voice that it could bring you to tears and everytime I hear his daughter sing I am reminded of it. This project, every track is so moving, emotional and heartfelt that it leaves you wanting more. And the collabo with Rashaun Patterson is such a perfect fit with his vocal range that you just sing along with admiration, then replay it again. I can't say enough good things about this Self Portrait but that it looks and sounds like a classic Hathaway.
so underrated August 25, 2008 Algie J. Thomas (athens, ga) all i can say after listening to her cd is how underrated lalah hathaway is.the cd is da bomb from beginning to the end especially the lead track...can you say off the chain.the cd is worth the buy for any real music lover
Music August 19, 2008 GoodRev. (Los Angeles, CA) Most of us buy CD's hoping that the first song is an indication of what the CD will be like. Not the case with this one. I felt like I was a part of a bad day as I listened to this one.
Lalah is almost as good as her dad was! August 13, 2008 Monica R. Brown I have followed her career since the beginning, seen her in concert, and loved her smooth sounds. This album is terrific from track 1 through track 12. I highly recommend it. And, I loved Donnie Hathaway!
