The Eton Sound 100 is a small and stylish clock radio that is ideal for small spaces such as the office, workshop, kitchen, or bedside table. Its advantages over similar devices includes its retro/futuristic stylings and the powerful punch of distortion free music it delivers from its mono speaker and rear-directed subwoofer.p bSetup and Control/bbrWe found the Eton 100 a snap to setup, relying on the included manual. Its functions are so simple and to the point, its controls so intuitive, that there is hardly any need for a manual.p The radio includes AM and FM, with five presets for each. AM ranges from 520 to 1710 KHz in 10 KHz increments, and FM RDS from 87.50 to 108.00 KHz in 0.05 KHz increments. The FM signal comes from an old school chromed, telescoping antenna that can be rotated to any needed angle, while the AM antenna is a built-in loop. Stations can be micro-tuned by quickly pressing the up or down tune buttons on the remote or the device itself.  Seriously flawed as a clock radio, but GREAT as a laptop speaker! October 9, 2008

Had I purchased this as an alarm clock/radio at $150, I wouild've been completely dissatisfied. However, I got it during a gold deal for $40. As noted by so many reviewers, the bright lcd display lights up a dark room so much that it's difficult to sleep. br /However, I purchased this for it's radio/aux functions, for which it is very satisfactory. Radio reception here in Manhattan is excellent on both am/fm. But using this as a speaker for an mp3 player is its real strong point. The sound is EXCELLENT once I've adjusted the EQ setting on the player. Sadly, the Eton lacks any kind of bass/treble adjustment,a serious omission for a radio that is still selling for $150. br /But once adjusted on your player, the sound is very rich, full bodied, and a pleasure to listen to for hours. I love laying in bed with the remote and listening to all my music on shuffle. br /As for the bright lcd, I also cover it up at night...a little odd having to do this, but I really bought this only as an mp3 speaker, and for that, it's a great deal if you can find it for $50.

The Eton Sound 100 compares favorably with the higher priced small monaural FM radios available today. Its small footprint made it especially useful in my kitchen -- with its included remote I could put on top of a cabinet and save counter space. With its PLL circuitry and telescoping antenna it receives many distant FM stations with good clarity that other radios cannot. Its alternate channel selectivity is outstanding. br /I did not realize it was an alarm clock, since I wanted to use it in the kitchen, but having battery back up means that power losses do not require re-setting up the pre-set stations. br /As other reviewers have noted it does not "star" with AM reception, but there are only a few radios available that are really good with AM in weak signal areas. br /My only criticism is that it is a bit too "bassy" for my taste, coupling low frequencies to any furniture surface where it is placed. Decoupling it by placing a thin layer of foam insulation underneath cured that problem nicely.
