ie September 30, 2008 Debbie H. Holden (Sacramento, CA) Sent to daughter in San Diego since they don't have air conditioning. She lives in a little house by the beach and on even fairly warm days her little house gets hot. She said this works well but is pretty noisy when it is on high.
Lives Up to Expectations September 4, 2008 LAinCT (Fresno,CA) Having read other reviews here at Amazon on this product, we decided to try this product. Our home has a large, open great room approximately 35' x 30' and 12' high ceilings. Our intent was to give this air circulator a try and if it works as well as other reviews said, we would buy a second one for the same room and point them in opposite directions. No need to buy a second one. The Vornado moves all of the air in the space unbelievably well. Since using the Vornado, we have been able to set our thermostat up by one degree in the summer and still stay comfortable. The unit pays for itself. As the Vornado website says, this product does not work like a conventional fan. If you stand in front of it, it does not feel like a high velocity fan. It's not supposed to. It's designed to circulate the air in large spaces, not fan the air directly in front of the unit. Overall, this is a great product. We will be purchasing additional (smaller) Vornados for the bedrooms.
Vornado Fans August 25, 2008 Norma I've had vornado fans for approx 18 years and only had to replace one. I use them year round. They are truly worth the investment.
Great Fan!!! August 23, 2008 V. Mitchell (CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Was looking to replace an inexpensive fan that simply was too loud on high speed to let us sleep. Once the sun goes down it cools outside but not in the house and we are used to it cooler in order to sleep well. The Vornado can be run on high which really moves the air but does so fairly quietly (you could say very quiet in the city and in the next room quiet in a rural setting). Owning a Vornado heater I already knew to expect quality construction and wasn't disappointed. A nice feature built into the design is the ability to point the fan level, at an angle, or straight up without any moving parts to shake loose---it is all in the design of the base. Bottom line; three speeds, really moves the air on high, is quieter at all speeds than any other fan I've seen, and is well designed.
Not as powerful as I expected August 17, 2008 Dallas Foley (Austin, TX) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Considering the price and the long list of 5-star reviews for this thing, I expected more. I'm a tad bit skeptical of the other reviews after buying this thing for myself, and I'm not sure it's right of Vornado to label this fan as a "whole-room air circulator." What it is is a fan, not a replacement or even a supplement for an air conditioner. This isn't to say it isn't worth a look, but here are a few points to consider. The first thing I noticed after taking it out of the box was size: this fan was a lot larger than I expected. Second, I noticed its cheap plastic design - it's not an unattractive fan, but it made out of plastic, and doesn't feel like 70 dollars worth of material. But that's fine, the real question is whether it works, right? Well, one thing this fan can do is move air. Even on low, you can feel a steady breeze if you're in its path. The high mode is pretty loud, but if you're actually using it on that setting, you're probably very hot and more concerned with getting hit in the face with a high-velocity stream of cold air than being irritated by a whirring noise, right? Anyway, I tried positioning the fan to blow indirectly to get it to circulate the air, and that's where I started to get disappointed. The "constant current of air" that other reviewers mentioned was nowhere to be found. I didn't feel the room cool down at all. Standing in front of the fan's path cools me off instantly, but it doesn't, at least in my experience, seem to have much effect on the rest of the air in a room. If you're looking for a nice indirect, indoor breeze, I'm not sure you're going to get it from this product. If you're looking for a nice fan, the low setting does work brilliantly here, but again, it's 70 dollars. There are plenty of 20 dollar fans that do the same job. The bottom line: - Works well as a fan, but doesn't circulate the air as advertised - Fan is larger than you might expect - Decent product with decent quality, but not worth the 70 dollars (buy three cheap fans and place them around a room on low for a far superior result) - Keep in mind my opinion is based on only a couple of days with the product, and it may change as I reposition it or use it more (I'll update if my opinion changes)
