4 out of 5 stars Does a great job for 99.9% of people   May 15, 2009
Just a guy (Westchester, NY)
I am a guy who is really into gadgets and gizmos. I also appreciate quality electronics and good value. This receiver is probably the best value you will find although I wish it had a few more HDMI inputs. Everything else does exactly as it says it does. br / br /OK, here is a comment of 0.1% of people out there, the amp in this - while adequate - has trouble producing midrange and there is the slightest interference from the transformer. You will have to really be an audiophile to notice any of this - and then probably only with fairly high end speakers. I only noticed it with headphones. br / br /Oh, and don't forget that this thing is HUGE. Make sure to measure twice, order once.

5 out of 5 stars Nice Home Theater receiver   March 18, 2009
G. Zars (Cedar Falls, IA)
I purchased the 605 because I was on a budget and could not afford a better sounding HT receiver. That said, this is a great product at $600. With some looking, you may be able to pick it up for far lower. Some of the earlier 605 models had HDMI pass through/switching issues, but my model works great sending a 1080p signal from my PS3. br /I am a picky audiophile, so I do not recommend music on this. br /For movies, this thing blows it up. I have paradigm Titans up front with a PSB center channel (pretty modest gear but it can take a beating), an old Paradigm PS1000 sub, and some old Polk wedge speakers in back. I can really ratchet the volume and the 605 keeps pumping it out giving my speakers everything they can handle. I only wish it had 1080p upconversion, but that's not a big deal for me since my PS3 already upconverts all my DVDs. br /The ability to use the 6 and 7 channels to bi-wire is a nice touch - wish I had better speakers for it. br /The back panel uses quality terminals and offers plenty of options to assign digital inputs. br /I find the interface somewhat cumbersome at times. I have to make several adjustments just to listen to a 2 channel audio track, for example. It assumes I want to use DSP which is a complete bastardization of the original track, in my opinion. br /Overall, I recommend this product for the price.
