3 out of 5 stars Stunning picture, but slow to boot up   March 1, 2008

I received the Toshiba HD-A2 as a Christmas gift (2007). On the whole I really, really like it. The picture quality of HD-DVD's is fantastic and the sound is awesome. I have this device connected to a Toshiba DLP HDTV, a JVC receiver and Bose Accousti-Max Series II speakers.

Pros:
1. Great picture w/up to 1080i/720p
2. Great sound
3. Ethernet connection
4. Very good up-conversion of standard DVDs

Cons:
1. Very slow to boot-up. It takes about a minute to warm up before you can load a disc.
2. Does not allow USB based wi-fi cards. This was an issue for me because my TV room does not have a network drop.
3. Internet update process is slow (> 15 minutes)

If you get a HD-DVD player, be sure to have a network drop near by for initial setup. It is important to get the latest updates. Otherwise you may pop in a HD-DVD disc only to have it not load/play. This happened to me on my first disc. But once I applied the latest firmware all was good.

4 out of 5 stars didn't work on my main tv   February 28, 2008

I have an older (2003) 61 inch Sony rear projection tv, that the hd dvd player did not work on. I used the component setup that I had with my regular dvd player, and the picture was blurred. I bought a hdmi cable and hooked it up to a newer tv (2006) that I had, and it works fine. A work of caution - if your tv is older and doesn't have a hdmi input, chances are you won't be able to use the hd dvd player.

5 out of 5 stars The best picture I have seen from an HD DVD   February 26, 2008

I have had this DVD player for about 6 months and have had no problems with it....it has the best picture I have seen produced by a dvd player. After hearing about HD DVD movies I purchased the Samsung Blu Ray.....it didn't work out of the box....I'm confused why this, HD DVD isn't the lead based on product performance (just read the blu ray comments) and price.
