| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The X-540 speakers use FDD2 (Frequency Directed Dual Driver) technology to produce a uniform soundfield anywhere in the room. Immerse yourself in the game using the selectable matrix mode, which automatically creates 5.1 surround sound from common 2-channel stereo sources. The compact satellites are wall-mountable, and a special clip lets you place the center channel speaker on top of most flat-panel monitors to reduce desktop clutter. Use the wired control center to control volume and bass levels or connect headphones to enjoy your games and music privately.

Great for the Price November 22, 2009 Novice Gamer Honestly speaking when I first heard them, I was very disappointed as I didn't feel enough punch and planned to return them asap. Then I made some changes to the setup and they sounded completely different.
br /Here are some of the changes that I made and that might help you:
br /1) Place the woofer on a solid base. I initially had it on my carpet and it sounded terrible. All I heard was vibrations and no clear sound. I have it on a peice of cardboard now and I feel the punch.
br /2) The woofer has three wires coming out of it(green, black and pink). Since I have just one headphone jack on my laptop I was connecting just the green color wire to it. This meant that I always had to keep the matrix ON to get the sound from all the speakers. I bought a three way headphone thingy and connected the three ends of it to the three wires from the woofer and plugged the other end into my laptop. The sound quality improved drastically and they sounded very clear and completely different from what they sounded initially.
br /3) Since I use the 3 way headphone jack to connect to my laptop, I dont have to have keep the matrix ON to get sound from all the speakers. These speakers sound a lot better when matrix is off. It sounds is very suppressed with the matrix ON.
br /I made these changes and was listening at half base level and half the volume when my neighbor came complaining about his room getting shaken. This was when I decided against returning these speakers. These speakers have more than enough power to trouble your neighbors :)
br /I use these speakers with my 50 inch HDTV, PS3 and Laptop and they all sound great with these speakers.
br /A great buy!!!
Great Product for the Price November 21, 2009 yesiree I purchased these speakers about 8 months ago, and I am very pleased. The sound quality is excellent. The price is outstanding. Now my guess is you could spend +$300 for a better sound, but these speakers strike a great balance between price and performance. I have no complaints. Yes, the cone on the subwoofer is exposed, but if you keep that in mind, you should be ok.

br /The "matrix" setting on the speakers dilutes the base in my opinion and is pretty worthless. If you want to get expanded output out of the surround speakers, you are better off tweaking with the speaker decibel output in the software controls to increase output on those speakers. I've done that and am pleased. Make sure the surround cables are long enough for your needs by looking at the specs. I've watched some Blu-Ray and Netflix streaming movies on a 24" HD monitor and these speakers, and the experience has been a nice one. Thumbs up.
Review November 8, 2009 Alex Teller (San Francisco, CA USA) Excellent product. Shipped on time and in perfect condition. I liked it so much I ordered another one.
Awesome Sound and Bang for the Buck November 7, 2009 Christopher Layton (Manti, Utah USA) This system puts out AWESOME sound for the money you pay. Very simple to setup. Extremely satisfied. I have this system on one computer and the Logitech Z-5500 on another computer (obviously the Z-5500 system is far superior with a subwoofer that can really thump and excellent sound quality that is a step above but hey it cost 3 times as much but still worth it as well)

Worth the Money November 4, 2009 Lori Dinki (Western New York) I looked around for a long time looking at speakers until finally purchasing these speakers. My computer's speakers are really old ones that came bundled with a computer so they are pretty crappy. my original plan was to buy a less expensive 2.1 speaker system but these were not very much more money for some nice extras. After receiving them and hooking them up to my computer I was very pleased. I have a sound card capable of utilizing the surround sound and everything worked great. After a couple days I decided to use the included converter to hook up the speakers to my Playstation 3. These speakers are compatible with anything that has a red/white audio output so hooking them up to my playstation was no problem. After hooking them up I was extremely pleased and have them still hooked up that way right now. I play a small amount of games on my computer and music but I play a lot of games on my PS3 and can even play music through it also(everything is in the same room too) so I enjoy having these hooked up to my PS3 more since they are an improvement over my speakers built into my TV.
br /
br /Now hooking it up this way with the red and white cables is only two channels, that means that there won't be true surround sound. Actually sound will only come out of the front speakers and sub woofer unless you turn on matrix mode when you are only receiving audio through the green cord. So my games aren't in true surround sound though I do hear the sound coming from all angles, which is nice.
br /
br /Also these are no high end system or going to replace a true TV/home theater set up. But for a teenagers room, a college dorm, or just something cheap these are great speakers to have.
br /
br /Also I have had no problems with the speakers malfunctioning, no humming or crackling and they are plenty loud.
br /
br /Overall great speakers for this price range and are definitely speakers to consider if you're on a budget.
