Praetorians is mostly just fighting and trying to control villages. Its not that much of a strategy game. In Praetorians you can control either the Romans or barbarians. This game is like Celtic Kings: Rage of War but when you make troops you make them in units like 30 or 12 instead if just 1. The units in Praetorians can have formations like the testudo so it kind cool to watch troops march instead of running around like an angry mob. There is a pretty long Roman campaign. In this campaign you travel across the ancient world as the Roman army with great generals like Caesar, Crassus, etc. The sad part is that in this game generals, Centurions, etc. can't fight and are just there to get in the way so keep them in the back of your army. The campaign are based on Julius Caesars conquests and every several campaigns you unlock, you get a cool 2minute movie. Overall this game is pretty good if you like action and fighting and like jumping right into war without a second thought 'cause these barbarians are pretty fast.

Praetorians br / br /This game is probably the best RTS I've tried (then again, The Battle for Middle-Earth II wasn't half-bad). The only problem is that it's been discontinued by the manufacturer, and the bad graphics ruin a good game. On the upside, this means that the only thing stopping this game is your operating system. Virtually every version of Windows can run it. So despite what you may have heard (be it other reviews or whatever) you should buy this game!!!

Some gamers have been hard on this game since the advent of Rome Total War but as far as a fun rts games go this game delivers a nice bang for the buck br /If you like the Age of Empires this rendition of Roman Imperialism is great! br /Sound and graphics are cool and charmingly accurate.

As far as Real-time strategies go this game is pretty standard. You assume the role of various figures during the time of the Roman Empire: it's formation, during, aftermath, etc... and take on various missions... Standard RTS formulas here, nothing new... br / br /Graphics Sound: br /- The graphics are outstanding in this game. They are not overly done to hog system resources but they look great. Unit animations and environmental terrains are nicely rendered and make battles fun to watch. br /- The music sound effects are well done and fit with the time period and on-screen action. No complaints; nothing earth-shattering but nicely done. br / br /Gameplay: br /- There are some good improvements and refinements to the controls in this game. All the standard RTS devices are in place: control groups, formations, etc... The methods for organizing armies and issuing controls is fluid and easy. This game succeeds in keeping the management of your forces, outposts, etc intuitive and simple. br /- Battles are well-done and aside from being visually stunning the action is fairly easy to coordinate. There aren't any complex moves that are needed to play - usually just point and click. Any effects of leaders, etc during the game is easily available by tips and hints from the game or in buildings. br /- if you enjoy themed games then this one will do justice to the Romanesque style. The uniforms and armies look great and the story and style of gameplay feels right. br / br /Performance: br /- the game runs very well without any glitches that I experienced. There were no unexpected graphic problems or sound anomalies that I experienced on two different machines. If your PC meets the requirements for the game you should be fine. br /- as always adjust options in-game to optimize performance or quality as desired (tune down quality options for better performance if the game runs slowly); check for video sound driver updates; and disable any background programs like virus scanners if you experience gameplay issues. br / br /Take care
