Purity represents a remarkable achievement in performance and 21st century connectivity at a really amazing price. Executing an exciting new direction, Purity is an elegant compact floor standing beauty that does it all. Combining the latest, friendliest version of MartinLogans unique see-through electrostatic panel (worlds most accurate method of sound reproduction) with 2 deep bass woofer cones in a clean lined cabinet, Purity mates ideally with any electronics for any audio use. Purity is at its best when directly connected with an RCA cable from any device with a volume control. Your computer, TV, i-pod, pre-amp, and A/V receiver will all love the marriage. Of course you may hook-up using conventional speaker wire if your system so requires.

Before you buy, try Magnepan August 27, 2008 dean-l (Twin Cities- Maple Grove, MN; Baby!!) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've listened to these side-by-side with Magnepan speakers. There was no question, Magnepan is superior. Just saying, try both - first.
Best speakers for the money! for Classical music buffs this is a must! June 25, 2008 Tech Junkie (San Jose,CA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Sorry, I don't have this particular speaker; I have Aeon i speakers, higher end than purity (not fully powered and requires good amplifiers that can drive 4 ohms speakers!). Before Aeon i, I used to have Aries speakers about 15 years ago. I have tried other high end speakers and for classical music this is one of the best sounding, best looking speakers that money can buy. Sound stage: when setup properly, you are sitting in front of the artists and get the feeling of live concerts. CLS doesn't give extra noises or tones the input signal so what you hear is almost what is there in the original recording (that means if you have a bad recording it will show!). Excellent mid range and highs, but a little poor in bass, but you can add a good subwoofer to take care of that. Speakers, if taken care of properly (no special caring but at least no destructive actions!), last forever. If you can afford, Martin logan is the best speaker that money can buy. One other caveat: Like most high end speakers, these speakers have to broken in - meaning the sound gets better after the first few hours of using it.
How can you not be impressed? June 4, 2008 Kenneth Harden (Reno, NV) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Its unfortunate reviews are used as a way to criticize distribution methods and not discuss the product itself. At $3k, these are not cheap speakers, but once you learn what is really inside of them, and what they are capable of, it is an impressive feat. Between the built-in amp, two very nice woofers, and a expensive electrostatic panel which is the result of 20 years of refinement, you are getting something very special. All of these features lead to...great sound...which is why you are buying these in the first place! As for the concerns about the cherry finish - view this as a decision to spend the money on the sound quality and not on cosmetics. They don't look bad at all, but realize it is a vinyl cherry finish (as in, not real wood). An analogy would be the 'cheap' interior on the Corvette. There is a reason they can get $100k car performance out of a $50k car. Yet, when you are driving one, you no longer care about the feel of the plastic on the passenger air bag cover. If you are that concerned about the finish, MartinLogan does make speakers above these which feature real wood finishes. If you love movies and music, these speakers will delight you. Forget the cherry finish, forget that you ordered them on Amazon. Set them up, dim the lights, and open your ears.
Superlative Performance April 23, 2008 B Gutz (MN) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought a pair of these a month ago and I absolutely love the sound.. It is the next best thing to actually having the band in the room with you. The only down side is the Cherry Case is a little cheap looking but when you consider the whole package these speakers pack a lot of value.. Besides if you close your eyes and let them do what you really bought them for (tremendous sound quality) they are a solid investment and serious ear candy.
Great sound, disappointing build quality April 19, 2008 SDK (Syracuse, NY) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
When set-up properly (which does take a significant amount of time and effort), these speakers sound fantastic. Incredibly realistic mid and high-frequency combined with adequate bass response for most people. Plus, the built-in amplifier make these speakers a serious bargain considering that they perform just as well as many $3000/pair speakers that require the additional cost of an expensive amplifier to power them. However, I was expecting a higher level of build quality from Martin Logan. The Cherry veneer is rather cheap-looking and one of my speakers arrived with the veneer beginning to peel-off around the bottom. Oh well, they still sound nice and that is most important.
