Product Description One of the problems with home-theater surround sound is finding the space to place 6 speakers in a room. It can be a challenge. Sony's HT-CT100 converts the surround experience to 3.1 channels and uses only 2 speakers, a subwoofer and a SoundBar. The SoundBar is placed like a center channel speaker directly over the TV. Speakers within the bar radiate at different angles to deliver center, left, and right channels through a spatially enhanced soundfield. With 50 Watts to each channel + 100 Watts directly to subwoofer, the system delivers 250 watts total. Featuring HDMI - Component Video - Optical A/V ports, you can connect your TV and DVD or Blu-Ray player directly to the system. It's the simplest, most streamlined way to enjoy home-theater surround LPCM Playback - LPCM is a method of encoding audio information digitally which can have up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. This wider bandwidth allows for high resolution audio which is closer to the original 3 Optical, 1-Coax Dolby Digital/DTS/ProLogic

bang for the buck November 19, 2009 clayton (new mexico) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This unit is perfect for my needs. The sound is fine and the bass fills the room. I live in an older adobe/concrete house and having no attic or basement running wires were out of the question. My living room is medium sized, 17x26, with parquet flooring and contrary to other comments regarding limited volume I set the volume at about 20 to 30 and find the levels to be fine. At 40-50 the windows vibrate and any communication with others is reduced to hand signals. Two friends, after hearing the system now have already purchased one.
br /I did check other sellers and found that Amazon beat everyone. Walmart was asking $269, I paid $228 at Amazon. Installation was a snap. It took longer to get it unpacked than to install it.
br /It looks good. It sounds great Buy it...
For small rooms: Perfect, otherwise probably not November 18, 2009 J. Swartz For dorm rooms or small singles this is a perfect system. It works great with movies and video games although when watching TV it takes some tweaking to hear the dialogue without booming soundtrack. For a larger room you probably should upgrade to a larger soundbar or the more traditional system.
Fuller sound, but not louder... November 15, 2009 T. Westerhof (Indianapolis, IN) There are plenty of reviews on this system and they provide a lot of good information. I just want to suggest that you check this system out in a store if you can to make sure it is loud enough for your application/expectations. For the price I would have thought it would be a lot louder then it is. The volume level maxes out a lot sooner then it should, the speakers sound like they have a lot more to give. Disappointed..

Fantastic Sound Bar! November 11, 2009 G. Bell 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my second Sony HTCT100 Soundbar! Have used the first one for 1 year with no problems and amazing sound for the price and size. I originally wanted to install a multi-speaker theater system, but after researching the systems and determining my needs, the soundbar was the best way to go. This isn't made to replicate surround sound, but it is very easy to install and has a great sound for the price. It takes about 5 minutes to get it out of the box and set it up. The best part is that it takes up very little room and you don't have speaker wire strung all over the place. This soundbar and my original soundbar both fit just underneath my TV. Most people don't even notice it's there. The sub-woofer sound is great and you can crank it up when you need it.

br /Absolutely recommend this soundbar! Great for the price and size!
