Product Description The Acoustimass 3 speaker system delivers the ear-pleasing low tones of a bassoonor the deep, dramatic effects of movies. The Acoustimass module produces these notes without audible distortion and can be hidden behind furniture. Rich, full music and movie sound appear to come from the small cube speakers, rather than from the module, hidden out of view. Remarkable richness and clarity emanate from the two Virtually Invisible cube speakers. Music from your existing stereo equipment sounds natural and true. These diminutive speakers can be wall mounted or displayed on speaker stands with our line of accessory mounting options. And the Acoustimass 3 speaker system easily handles more than music. Connect this speaker system to the rear channel outputs of your home theater equipment, and enjoy the same superb sound quality from your movies as you do your music.
Amazon.com Product Description The Acoustimass 3 speaker system from Bose delivers surprisingly rich performance while practically disappearing into your decor. The system, the company's smallest and most affordable to date, produces lifelike sound from your stereo components (DVD player, CD player, VCR, DVR, MP3 player, etc.) and, when connected to your surround sound receiver, it's also an appropriate choice for use as a left/right rear-channel home theater array. The speakers' compact size makes them a great choice for smaller rooms.P Two single-cube speakers standing just 3 inches high are elegantly designed to blend with virtually any furnishings. Patented Acoustimass speaker technology delivers the ear-pleasing low tones of a bassoon or the deep, dramatic effects of movies. Best of all, you can easily stash the Acoustimass module behind furniture or in a corner, and the system's lifelike sound will appear to flow from the tiny cubes.P Hookup couldn't be simpler: route left/right speaker wires (supplied) from your integrated amplifier or surround receiver to the back of the Acoustimass module (essentially a passive subwoofer), then run two more lengths between the Acoustimass module's left/right speaker outputs to the 2 cube speakers. All three units use convenient clip-type speaker terminals.P When you hear the Acoustimass 3 Series IV system, you'll be surprised that such a huge sound can come from such small speakers. These Virtually Invisible speakers are the definitive answer to the question of how to combine spacious sound with space-saving design. It's all the result of Bose's years of intense research and testing.P The tiny cube speakers can be wall-mounted or displayed on speaker stands using the optional Bose UFS-20 universal floor stands, UTS-20 universal table stand, or UB-20 wall/ceiling bracket. Now or in the future, you can turn your Acoustimass stereo speakers into a home theater set by simply adding the compatible Bose VCS-10 center-channel speaker. For full 5-speaker surround sound, add the VCS-30 center/surround speaker package.P The system's four 20-foot lengths of speaker wire should accommodate most living rooms. For longer cable runs, however, Bose recommends using 2-conductor, 18-gauge wire (30 feet), 16-gauge wire (45 feet), or 14-gauge wire (70 feet), for a hookup that maintains a maximum frequency-response deviation of +/- 0.5 dB. (Cable thickness increases as gauge decreases.)P bWhat's in the Box/bBr Two cube speakers, 1 powered Acoustimass module, 4 lengths of speaker wire (20 feet each), 4 adhesive rubber feet, and a user's manual with warranty/registration information

Great sound, but somewhat weak bass December 5, 2008 Vinnie Silvagio (Telluride, CO USA) These speakers sound great. The clarity is outstanding. The sound is extremely well balanced. BUT the bass is fairly weak, roughly comparable to average 8" bookshelf speakers. The bass unit is NOT a subwoofer-- it is a woofer. You will notice that Bose does not publish the frequency response! If you're accustomed to 10" speakers or any system with a subwoofer, and if you like strong, deep bass, you will be disappointed. If you do not require lots of lows, you will probably like these. Great for classical or folk, superb for spoken programs, not so great for rock. You won't find anything of this size and price that sounds as good, but it is what is is, and nothing more. You can only get so much bass out of a 5.25" speaker, no matter how well designed the enclosure is. br /
Use Bose Companion 3 Instead? December 3, 2008 Tony M. Fowler (Castle Rock, Colorado United States) Consider that the Computer/TV/Home Theater technology is constantly evolving, should Companion 3 be for the simple LCD home theater setup? Just insert the audio cable to the back of LCD TV (Audio Out-FIX), rest the cute speakers on the console table, settle the subwoofer on the floor and sit back and enjoy! The sound is as superb as it be! Why hassle with the stereo, amplifiers and whatnot when you can simplify the solution by being practical? Am I missing something here? The downside is you can't use remote control to adjust the volume, but simply touch the pod to switch off or on. I don't always want the stereo sound effect because sometimes I want some quiet time, have a headache or I don't want to disturb my sweetheart's sleep or neighbors. When I pop a movie in, just activate the pod! Life can't be any simpler than this!
Decent sound--bass lacking August 26, 2008 Dutchman2001 (California) Have to agree with previous reviewers--bass is there but lacking. The separate woofer is not a subwoofer by any means. I'm using the Acoustimass 3 system as the "front speakers" in a low-budget surround sound system. Also have to agree with a previous reviewer that the individual cubes sound good. Just running the system without a center or rear channel speakers connected, "Fellowship of the Ring" sounded quite tolerable. I noticed the deficit when I cued up the first track of Pat Metheny's Letter from Home. Again, good mid and hi-range responses from the cubes, the bass, however, was just minimally there and lacked any punch whatever. I'll probably add a subwoofer and then I should have a halfway decent system.
Buy for the cubes, not for the bass November 28, 2007 Brad C. (Santa Rosa, CA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I fully agree with all the reviews regarding the lack of bass response on this system. I bought it to use as rear surround speakers. I will be disconnecting the "sub" portion as there is little or no bass response from it. The cubes however, sound great and definately are what I was looking for to complete my system.
Sounds Good June 7, 2007 Mr. Paul D. Delacruz 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These speakers are made to replace bad TV speakers, but an amplifier is required. Wouild not recommend for the main movie watching for your home for the subwoofer is not separate from the two smaller speakers.
