Amazon.com Product Description
Complete a powerful home theater system with the deep, driving bass of the Klipsch KSW-10 powered subwoofer--perfect for combing with high-performance Klipsch Synergy Series surround sound configurations. It couples a 10-inch driver to the floor for optimal performance. This subwoofer's high-output, down-firing design "grips" the air and fills a room with low frequency energy that's heard and felt with undetectable distortion. The built-in discrete MOSFET amplifier and 10-inch fiber-composite woofer are as efficient as they are reliable. It provides 55 watts of FTC-rated continuous power, and it has a dynamic power rating of 275 watts. (Dynamic power indicates the actual power this amplifier will deliver to the woofer under normal operating conditions.)

The woofer is composed of a Santoprene rubber surround with a fiber composite cone which enables Klipsch subwoofers to deliver on their promise of extended bass response and maximum reliability. This subwoofer accepts LFE, line-level, and speaker level inputs, making it easy to add to the Quintet Microsystem, the Synergy System 6, or any other Klipsch inspired arrangement. The KSW-10's jet ash veneer vinyl finish creates a deceivingly subtle exterior for its earthshaking sound capabilities.

One KSW-10 subwoofer speaker

Product Description
The down-firing design of this Klipsch Subwoofer provides more "room-filling" bass. The high output subwoofer driver effectively couples, or grips, room air, dispersing the low frequency energy consistently throughout the room. This augments the haptic sensation and "feeling, " ensuring powerful bass performance. Santoprene rubber surround with fiber-composite cone delivers extended bass response and maximum reliability. Multiple hookup options accommodate any system configuration. It is easy to connect with LFE line level or speaker wire from any receiver or component separates. Phase and low pass filters are variable to optimize performance. LED light indicates power amplifier status.

5 out of 5 stars Come along, come on, what did you think?   April 11, 2008

I'm in a very small room. I paid a small price. What do you want? Those who've invested a good percentage of their annual income in the best brands, like, uhhh, Pestrono Iksu, Choralius Opus 1, or Moran for that matter(remember The Conversation starring Gene Hackman?,)are probably not among those who are secretly listening to K&D Sessions or Boards of Canada in their tiny clubhouse. It's more than enough for a twenty by twenty room powered by an HK 3485. Polk RTI 25's are matched well to this woof. Hello out there, is there anybody home? Is there anybody in there? Yes. I am downbeat-heavy- bass, dub and electronic manic depressive. Though, I never forget to play The Ventures (In Space) or Jimmy McGriff. I am an heir of the Hammond B3 and Leslie...the Wurlitzer, for heaven's sake. Some delay issues but not enough to kill the buzz.

I thought like many the more watts the bigger the boom, but I got a lesson in acoustics, Klipsch, B&W, Polk, Velodyne and Sunfire, these here are good, better and best, but you still need the receiver or amp to get the sound you want. Now I have to admit that Velodyne and Sunfire are tops, but this KSW 10" sub, could handle its own. I put in Jurassic Park, Transformers, Planet of the Apes and it passed with bounce to the oz, some have said that it doesn't shake the floor. well don't know what they were running. but I shook the walls and windows and the vibe in the floor. I liked it so much that I got a 2nd and they work in tandem, talkin' about bouncin' off the walls, it can. Playin' my music is also an experience, I have never gone past half, the quality is excellent w/o loosing any quality of the bass, from R&B, Hip Hop, Classical, Jazz, Acid Jazz, Alt Rock, Rock 'n' Roll, just a nice tight sound w/o the muddy muck. For the money it is worth the bump, unless you want to spend a few grand on the Sunfire or Vely's

First off, I am not an audiophile. This speaker sounds great with my 5.1 system. The bass is strong and sounds great. I like that it is downfiring because my kids can't find the actual speaker to destroy it! Also is great for a time out chair as my wife has turned it into.

Purchased this to replace a dying Polk Audio 12" front firing subwoofer.

On the way to this I tried the JBL Sub10 (not enough output).

This compares favorably with the Polk (in its better days) with the setup I have.

The downward firing configuration suits my listening area (the sub is close to listeners rather than facing them from farther away). I also like the fact it has a power indicating LED on the front, to determine that it goes into low-power mode when not being used.

Properly balanced in my listening area it provides pleasing bass, not at all boomy or flat. At half volume level I achieve more than enough effect for my listening tastes.

It's not high-end but it's far from low-end audio.

4 out of 5 stars Does a very nice job for mid-level systems.   February 27, 2008

I've been using this sub with other Klipsch speakers in a 5.1 system for the past 5 years or so.

While low frequency response tends to be omnidirectional, I've found that corner placement of this unit smoothes out the reponse quite a bit and eliminates a lot of the "boominess" that some complain of.

So much depends on the acoustics of the specific room that it's difficult to know what this or any other sub will sound like prior to installation and some experimentation.

It might not compare to some more expensive and more powerful subs, but it works nicely for my situation. Considering that my situation is a New York City apartment, anything much more powerful than this would likely get me evicted.
