My assumption is that all of the pistons push in towards the center simultaneously. In any case I had a catch-all phrase in my original post;

One thought that comes to mind is to put nuts & washers in the center of the rod, and screw them out to exert slight outward force on the manifold, then mount the drivers on the rigid "studs" sticking out of the cabinet.
