Re: Greetings from Deane Johnson

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I've already learned a great deal about the BFD I didn't know or realize from this site and got inspired to start from scratch using the information contained herein. Much better results. I'm inspired again. My sub is a Velodyne 18" Servo, so when it's doing it's thing properly, it's an inspiration.

Since adjusting it, I've watched Lara Craft Tomb Raider and tonight just watched Standing In The Shadows of Motown. With the new adjustments, it's so much more powerful I now run it about the same level (using Video Essentials) as the other speakers, where previously I ran it a couple of DB higher than the mains. Much more rewarding and obviously much more efficient in delivering the sub frequencies.

Regretfully, my Marantz SR-780 receiver has only a 100 Hz crossover, which is too high for my Atlantic Technology THX 370 speakers.

I did the adjustments using the manual instructions on this site. Being a gadget junkie, I downloaded the REW software and it looks like a lot of fun. However, my 71 year old brain doesn't learn anything that new and complex easily, so I proceeded manually.

I was getting a little bored with my theater, even though we watch a movie almost every night. Now it's fun again.

By the way, Sonnie, you're right, I did join the Home Theater Forum on 1/28/1999. I got up to about 2000 posts before losing interest as the teen agers took it over. I also visit and post often at the AVS forum, mostly to answer peoples questions about screen curtains, window blackouts and motorized rods which I have a lot of experience from our local business which I can tap.
