Hi from New Brunswick

I'm in the process of building a recording studio (11'X13'X8') which is small and I'm hoping it will sound good enough to do professional recordings, I'm planning to record some of my own songs.
My next step is to find a sound pressure level meter (SPL) so I can test the lower frequencies.
I'm wondering if there is a way for me to test lower frequencies without buying an SPL meter, since I have high quality microphones here, but they are not C-weighted. I also have software that simulates a spectrum analyser.
In my corners, I built panel absorbers to absorb frequencies from 70 to 110 Hz and then I put 4" triangles of fibrex insulation in front of the panels, from the floor to the ceiling. The triangles are 2'X2'X 2'10".
BUT I'm wondering why the panel absorbers behind the fibrex insulation didn't improve the sound????
