You're getting a few issues confused.
The reason we're using REW and our computer soundcards is simply to aid in the setting of the BFD filters to smooth the response of the subwoofer.
The setting of levels in our system for listening is another issue. You would use the internal test tones in your receiver/processor and its various speaker trims to set these levels.
If you need to mess with levels because your soundcard is challenged in analog vs digital (although I've never experienced such a thing before), then make the neccessaey changes to accomplish your filter/REW duties and then return the levels to normal when your finished.
