I always make my own cables also. +1 for the RG-6 and get the quad shield if you can, it will have the best shelding of just about any cable you can buy. If you are going to make your own component cables then make sure you get the lengths of each cable the same. As far as cost goes, most of my cables don't cost anything as I install P.A's on the side I usually have leftover 100M rolls of cable and plugs/sockets lying around  .
