Can't stand the guy, and I'm from the Bay Area (although I'm really a Dodger fan). He represents SO many things that are wrong about pro sports today.
As for the steroid thing, I think he should DEFINITELY have an asterisk after ALL of his HR records. I know he still has to 'hit the ball', but strength helps! Also, a overlooked issue is the recovery time for someone on steroids -- being on the road, playing so many games, it takes a toll on a player. With steroids, Bonds recovered much more quickly than Aaron, Ruth or Maris ever could/did. And to me, that's what stats are really supposed to represent, a comparison of players from different leagues/times/etc. With steroids put in to the mix, I think the whole apples to apples comparison is lost.
Also, two numbers why Bonds can't be compared to Ruth -- 94 and 2.28. Those are the number of wins and lifetime ERA he had as a pitcher.
