My question……do I need an eq….it seems as if I’m just dropping the overall level??
Yup – what you’ve accomplished is dropping your sub level something like 20 dB. The equalizer should not be used as a level-adjusting device. I suggest lowering your sub’s volume control to where it’s close to the target level, then equalize.

You might want to consider experimenting with different locations, to see if it helps the 70 Hz / 90 Hz depressions. If it’s not in a corner, that’s usually a good starting place, if your installation allows.
